SUNFLOWERS
by Verna Mull

There are gorgeous fields of sunflowers,
Standing brightly in the summer sun;
At each change of the golden sunlight,
Their heads turn to the light, one by one!

When clouds cover the light of the sky,
It's not long 'till their heads start to bow;
And they begin to look like they're wilted,
They're not nearly as beautiful now.

Then, the sun breaks through, and it shines again,
And the heads of those sunflowers raise,
Giving contented growth to the sunflower,
Lifting the hearts of all those that gaze!

I would like to be like the bright sunflower,
Keeping my eyes fixed upon our God's Son;
Basking in the light of the Saviors presence,
Maturing until my days are done!

I'd like to bring joy to those around me;
Lifting their hearts, with joy on my face;
Helping them keep their eyes on the Son-light,
I'd like to lead them, my Lord, to embrace!

The sunflower will be my reminder
To keep my feet on my Gods narrow way,
Walking with Jesus through all the trials;
And make the most of my life every day.
