by tolulope Oluokun Many have come to see Jesus Christ as their redeemer from sin, from sickness and all sought of bondage. Only few have come to realize Jesus as their redeemer from poverty. Many think it is until they get a good paying Job, save, and invest that they will prosper and be rich. There is nothing wrong in doing these things, but we have to come and realize the perfect exchange Christ did for us concerning our financial status. In 2nd cor. 8:9, which says, You know how full of love and kindness our lord Jesus Christ was, though He was very rich, yet for your sakes [you and I] he became poor, so that by his poverty he could make you rich. What a revelation! Jesus has paid the price. From the verse, one can see that Jesus was made poor to make us rich similar to what He did with our sins. He was made sin, that we may be made the righteousness of God [2nd cor. 5; 21] so we have to accept what He did for us concerning our poverty , the same way we accepted what He did on the cross concerning our sins . Its not toiling that brings abundance. In Luke 5:5 peter said to Jesus "we have toiled all night and caught nothing." Hard work is good but when in line with God's word, hard work outside God's word and way ends in futility. Let us receive what God did for us through Christ Jesus and know that our sufficiency is in Christ and not anywhere else, not even a job or a human being. In Philippians 4:19, God says, "He shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus." We should allow what Christ did for us have first place in our lives and rely on it, and then any other work that follows [e.g. a job] will be in proper place. Work should be seen as our purpose- what we are to do here on earth. It should never be our security for prosperity.
