I Should Be a Cowboy
by Teresa Lee Rainey

I will be a cowboy when I get older.
Star is my horse. Only I can control her.
If I have my way, I won't own any car.
Wherever I go, I can get there on Star.

I will be a cowboy who won't have a wife
Unless she'll accept me and my cowboy life.
She'll just have to love me the way that I am,
Then maybe I'll get her a horse she'll call Pam.

I must be a cowboy - no matter what,
But Mom says it matters and matters a lot
That Jesus approves of my life and my plans.
I need to be sure that I'm safe in His hands.

I could be a cowboy so I'm prayin' "Please,
Lord, aren't You a real cowboy too, just like me?
Mom told me the story of Your big white horse.
You ride into battle and You win, of course.

"I should be a cowboy, but if You say no
I'll wait 'til You show me where You'ld have me go.
For now, Lord, I'm prayin' that You will say yes,
'Cause this cowboy livin' is simply the best."
