LOVE AND MARRIAGE
by

Colossians 3:18-19
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.

Two short common verses often used at wedding ceremonies, yet the instructions are simple and direct with these two verses alone, a marriage can flourish.

Norm and I celebrate our twenty eight wedding anniversary on the 10th of January 2009 and these two verses are still as relevant to us today as they were on our wedding day. As I reflect back over the years, I see images of Norm's unwavering love for me. Our vows: to have and to hold, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in heath, to love and to cherish until we are parted by death, have never been stronger.

Walking away has never been an option for Norm, even while I was housebound and confined to bed for weeks. Medical bills mounted around us with no sign of retreating, yet he remained by my side. Together we drew strength from our Lord. I know many prayers were spoken from his very soul. Norm became my nurse and my pastor and his love is my constant hope and my rock. My husband is the love of my life and my best friend. My desire is to honour him and stand by him in every circumstance life brings our way.

I give you this ring as a symbol of our marriage. With all that I am and all that I have I honour you, in the name of our God.

Father, your word is truth in every way. Let our marriage reflect Your truths in every area of our lives. Draw us closer to each other as we draw closer to You. Amen
