My Friend
by Cindy Odom

For Don

"Where are you going, why do you leave?"
I said to him as I tugged on his sleeve.
"Stay with me longer, sit down, lets talk."
"No" he said softly, and started to walk
towards the door that was open
bright light shining in,
"The time I have spent here has come to and end."
Then sadly I whispered, "I'll miss you my friend."
"I know where you're going, I know why you leave,
I'll see you again, this I truly believe."

The days seem much longer since my friend went away.
How I do miss him, he had a way
of making me laugh, making me smile,
with a certain flare, just his very own style.
I remember when he sat in his favorite chair,
And needing to go to -- well you know where.
But knowing if he got up, someone else would sit there,
So into the bathroom went he and the chair.

I miss all the fun times we use to share,
We told jokes and laughed,
He'd even sing
when we all got together with never a care
of what ever tomorrow might bring.

I know why you left us,
I know where you are,
I know I will see you again.
But as each day goes by,
I still wonder why,
I truly do miss you,
my friend.

I have been married to my high school sweet heart for 40 years. We have three children and three grandchildren. We have lived south of Indianapolis,IN. since 1982. Prior to here, we lived in different areas, moving quite a bit due to my husband career in retail.
