A Thought for Lent
by Judy Doyle A Thought for Lent While doing devotions today, I read from the book "Bread and Wine - Readings for Lent and Easter." Oswald Chambers said, "When one really sees himself as the Lord sees him, it is not the abominable sins of the flesh that shock him, but the awful nature of the pride of his own heart against Jesus Christ. When he sees himself in the light of the Lord, the shame and the horror and the desperate conviction come home." I think that is the process we are going through during our Lenten season. Can we really look at ourselves as Jesus looks at us? Can we see our pride and the effects of our pride? Can we see the harm our pride might cause to others not to mention ourselves? If we can, are we willing to confess that pride and allow our Lord Jesus Christ to crucify our pride on the cross? Galatians 2:20 says, "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. the life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me." The Christian life is not a one time experience. It is an ongoing experience. We will never "arrive" until we arrive in the arms of Jesus. Our spiritual life is an organism - it should continue to grow. As a seed planted in the ground struggles to break through the soil, it eventually buds, grows and produces life, so it is with us.
