Spirit or Self?
by Marijo Phelps

I'm just a heavenly observer
Looking in upon your life
To see if peaceful calmness flows
Or if you're filled with strife

You tell me you have a Savior
And that He is your Lord
But you yawn when you're singing songs to Him
And when you hear His Word you seem bored

And if I really question you a lot
You say He's given you life anew
But I'm not so sure I'd want to take that step
If I'd come out starched and stuffy like you.

You talk a lot of His Spirit that's Holy
And God's Word says He'll comfort and teach
But you must make room inside of you
Don't push the Spirit off out of reach

And when I attend your gatherings
I hear you bicker and fuss and sigh
Wonder if you've read His many promises?
It must make Him want to cry

In eternity God's never changed and He never will
His Word is valid wherever it's told
Can't you stop and step out of your SELF
And to His fullness lay hold?

Allow Him to clean and throw out the trash
That's made you selfish clear through
Pray for revival and His Holy Spirit
To fill up and indwell you.

I used to think, a long time ago
That I'd really rather be
An earthly person instead of angelic being
So I could claim God's inheritance for me

Guess He's allowed me to peek at you
So I'd stop desiring to come down
'Cuz if I were there instead of here
I might catch the soul-sickness that's going round

Instead I'll blast my trump for you
And play a warning, WAKE UP song
Father, Son and Holy Spirit in their fullness are there
So shake your apathy NOW, don't wait too long!!!
