Life's Toy
by Marijo Phelps

Life toys with you and plays with you,
Dabbles you here and there.
Life teases you and taunts you,
She doesn't seem to care.

You're one of her unpolished paintings,
The job she left half done.
Not complete like the others,
But a toy made for fun.

She made you in a day of boredom,
Then cast you aside,
Along with the other unfinished lives
Like a drop in the tide.

She looks at you now and then,
Plays with you at her leisure
Those moments few and far between
Are the ones you'll have to treasure.

Those precious few become worthwhile,
Little instances, then gone they'll be.
I know that all too well,
Because life also plays with me.
