Lucy Mouse and the Easter Lily, a Children's Story
by Nancy Quinn

What was that familiar smell? Lucy Mouse paused on the bottom step of her little church basement home and sniffed around to see where the wonderful scent was coming from. Peaking underneath the stairs, she noticed her brother Moose the Mouse fast asleep. He was cuddled up inside a beautiful white lily. Moose began to wake up and rubbed his eyes and twitched his whiskers. Lucy asked Moose where he got the beautiful lily.

"I found it on the ground outside by the church," explained Moose. "And doesn't the beautiful smell remind you of the service this morning too?"

Lucy sat down by her little brother and they talked about the special Easter service that morning that they watched from behind a heating vent. As they watched the people walk into the church, they were given an Easter lily. The pastor instructed them that they would pin it to the big wooden cross at the front of the church and they were to say a prayer and thank the Lord for sending Jesus to die for their sins. Lucy and her family had listened to the music fill the room and they watched the ugly wooden cross slowly transform into a beautiful flower-filled cross!

As they looked around the church surrounded by the Easter Lilies, they heard the pastor explain that the beautiful lilies in the church were a reminder of new life. And Jesus was able to turn the ugly cross that he died on into something very beautiful because Jesus died on the cross for all our sins. After being dead for three days in a tomb, Jesus was then raised to new life and went to heaven. Did you know Jesus is preparing a special home in heaven for the people who ask Him to be in their hearts? Lucy and Moose had both prayed to ask Jesus to be in their hearts last year in Sunday School and they were very excited that Jesus was preparing a special place for them in heaven!

Lucy touched one of the petals of the beautiful lily and asked Moose if he thought there would be any more that the wind may have blown away near the church. "Let's find out!" exclaimed Moose. They raced up the church basement steps and into the little park by their church to search for a beautiful lily for Lucy to use as her bed that night too!

How about you? Are you excited like Lucy and Moose are about Jesus? If you don't know Him yet as your best friend, you can pray the below prayer and Jesus will come into your heart too. And He promises that He will never leave you. He's a wonderful best friend and loves you very much!

Dear God, I know I am a sinner. Please forgive me. I believe that Jesus died for me on the cross and that He arose from the grave so that I can live with Him in Heaven someday. I am now trusting Jesus as my Savior. Thank you for loving me and saving me. Amen.

May God bless these words as I strive to encourage others in their walk with Christ. Please contact me if you would like to request a specific lesson that Lucy Mouse can teach your children or if you would like a coloring page to be sent to match the story!
