Transparent Blue You
by Marijo Phelps This was written after looking at a blue glass ashtray during my psychiatric case study in nurse's training. The idea was there for a poem, but it never quite formulated itself, remaining elusive even to this writer but I kind of like it that way. It really means that one can seek to know another and though the other is willing you might never get any further than an impression (the blue color) as to what the core of that person really is. You may see through or beyond him but not into him. My case study was such a young man. Looking back it is very possible that he was demonized (I did not know the Lord then but that would make sense better than anything else did) Transparent Blue You I begged to know you, Your soul and within, The core of your most intimate Person-self. You slowly, sadly opened Yourself to me, Stripping away the exterior Until I should have Been able to see The coat of your soul Yet I could perceive Nothing But only gaze through The transparent, blue you.
