Thank You, Lord, for Mom and Dad
by Marijo Phelps

For memories of yesterdays
Of fishing trips til twilight's haze
Of little girl dreams and piggyback trips
How lightening works and why the wrench grips

Your time, for me,
Was love expressed
And patient replies to all my quests
Helped me learn & know & grow

But you taught me much more than that
Your serious gentleness and trust begat
A foundation for character way inside
Upon your guidance and wisdom I relied

And as I grew and tripped and fell
You were there to hug me and me and "make it well"
As through the years my sin overcame
You might now approve but you loved the same

Foolish choices and unwise ways
I learned and grew through some darkened days
Out of balance, out of wack
Yet I could trust in you to steady the tack

In grossest sin I walked unwise
It must have made you turn your eyes
Yet I never knew or sensed or felt
Personal rejection in the way you dealt

Your balance, counsel,
Wisdom and prayers
Have helped me release
My burdens and cares

The trust you taught
Helped me to grow
To believe enough
To reach out and go

To confess my mess
And rely on Him
After years of darkness
Steeped in sin

Oh, to know the release of my soul set free
To know the peace and power of God in me
To realize obedience out of love for Him
To see miracles and blessings He's worked within

I praise Him now for the two of you
For your laughter, prayer and praise and the things you do
Thanks for loving me enough to allow me freedom to fall
For standing beside me when I couldn't stand at all

For sharing with me my hopes, dreams and tears
For being my FAVORITE,
Most beautiful parents
For all these years!
