God Cares - A Devotional Reading

"... Cast all your cares on Him, for He careth for you." 1 Peter 5:7

I had a phone call from my brother telling me that my dad was in a critical condition. It was Saturday afternoon. I was away from home - at least 3 hours' flight away. That news was disturbing. I was complaining inside my heart, blaming my brother, " What did you want me to do? Why did you inform me this kind of hour, when all operators are closed, no way I could fly back on time " I couldn't help but anxious with the fact that I couldn't do anything.

Life, sickness and death always bring us surprises and anxiety. We care for our loved ones. When life's inevitable hit them, we couldn't help but feel anxious. Other than these, there are more things we cared for things pertaining to this life; the cares of this life caused our heart to beat faster, our minds to be clouded, and our emotions to screw up. We are anxious because we can't let go. We anxiously hold on to situation and people that we had no control of. The more we wanted to take control or try to change the situation, the more anxious we become; and unless we know that someone is taking care of those situations, we can't have the peace of mind.

How about a loving God who knows all things is taking care of those things for us? Can we relax? Many times we forgot about the fact that God cares for us. He is our Heavenly Father. He cares enough to die for us. He had paid the price for every need we would have in this life. We just need to go to Him and He would be there for us. We need not to be anxious about anything, but in supplication, He will grant us peace that surpasses all understanding.

With that peace that surpassed all understanding, I interceded for my dad's life, that God would spare him and that he would have a chance to hear the full Gospel. God was indeed true and faithful at critical moments. In less than five hours, my brother called me and told me that his condition was under control and he was not dying. Two weeks later, I managed to go home, when he was almost recovered. I experienced a breakthrough that first time in this life he accepted prayers for healing.

By God's mercy and grace, my dad heard the full Gospel before he finally left this earth two years later. By then, I had a total peace about his sudden death though I was still miles away. I know that God cares; I do not need to be anxious about anything.

Before next challenge comes, I was ready to face that with confidence because I have a Heavenly Father who cares. I could cast my cares of this life on Him, He will see me through at the end of the tunnel.
