All Roads Lead to Somewhere....

by Shannon Heiden
5/28/2009 / Devotionals

This is what the LORD says: "In the time of my favor I will answer you, and in the day of salvation I will help you. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people, to restore the land and to reassign its desolate inheritances, to say to the captives, 'Come out,' and to those in darkness, 'Be free!' "They will feed beside the roads and find pasture on every barren hill. (Isaiah 49:8-9 NIV)

Beautiful One, what do you do when the direction you've been heading takes an unexpected turn? How do you navigate your way through life when you feel like your lost and in unfamiliar territory?

Have you ever had one of those days where you just wish you never got out of bed? You wake up and nothing seems to go right. To top it off, your late. Really late. You grab your keys. Spill your coffee. You manage to make it out the door but you know you forgot something. Just don't know what. Yet.....

You're driving and encounter every red light possible. You miraculously manage to get behind every slow driver on the road. You're in a hurry, impatient, and completely stressed out.

Then, as if it can't get any worse, you notice that the road you're on has a detour. You cannot go the way you had planned. Instead, you are led in a different direction. Ultimately the detour will get you to where you're supposed to go. Just not the way you had thought, or in the time you allowed.

Life can be that way. Our life's journey sometimes looks like the above scenario. It is said that "all roads lead to somewhere." But, what happens when your road leads to nowhere; a dead end? Or, the road is so bumpy that it gives you a flat tire and leaves you stranded by the roadside. What happens when you unknowingly take a wrong turn and you end up in a place that looks nothing like what you expected?

What do you do?

Beautiful One, who has been able to answer these questions effectively? Each of us is unique, as are the bumps, holes, and detours we encounter along our own way. What works for nim or her, may not work for you or me.

When we encounter roads that are long and hard, we need to remember we are just passing through. This is a season, not our identity.

We think that we are the ones who have gotten ourselves to where we are. The truth is; God is the Master Orchestrator behind the scenes; pulling the strings in the affairs in our lives (even when we are lost in the dark or on some deserted road.) God is there and He knew our path and destination before we did.

God has ordered our very steps. He helped us in the past and He's not about to change now. Whether it's our darkest hour, when we feel like we've failed, we don't know our way or when we're panicked - He is there!

In the time of His favor, He will answer us and tell us things we didn't know. He continuously teaches and trains each of us in the issues of life daily. . .even when life's not going our way.

When plans have been made and dreams were given breath, there is hope and great excitement. But, sometimes opposition, circumstances, and people tag along for the ride and it doesn't go as smoothly as one hoped for. In fact, the opposition can become so great that it distracts us and we miss a turn or make the wrong one.

The good news is; we have the power and ability in Christ, to turn around anytime.

When life turns on us, it can catch us off guard. How many go to a job they love, only to go one day and it's no longer there? Two people fall in love and say, "I do" only to discover only one of them meant it. A doctor's report comes, but it's not good. A misunderstanding occurs and a relationship is severed. An opportunity overlooks you and lands in someone else's lap.

Beautiful One, we may not understand the "whys in life." That's OK. It would be too much information to process anyway.

What we do need to understand is that we have a Great God. He has mapped out our roads long before we ever embarked on our journey. God is like our very own personal GPS (global positioning system) system. If we go too fast, He slows us down. If we miss our exit, He gets us to another one. When we are lost, He comforts and guides us. When there is danger, He protects us. When we encounter people and pick them up without discernment or discretion, God is faithful to help us out of any alliance that is harmful if we follow His guidance.

Beautiful One, maybe the road your on right now is closed or broken. Maybe there is sorrow. Maybe you feel like nothing will ever change.

That is a lie.

No matter what your road looks like and what you are dealing with, remember that you have a Great High Priest who knows every detail of your life. He even knows the things you don't. Christ walked through everyone of your issues, joys, and sorrows two thousand years ago. And, He overcame them all so that you can too.

Beautiful One, just believe. All roads do lead to somewhere. May your road lead you to the One who made it.
