The Legend of the Old Toyota

"The Legend of the

Old Toyota"
by Judy Sims

It came to me
at the age of ten.
It's previous owner
thought he was dead.

She said, "It's dead!
but if it will start
I'll sell it cheap
yours to park"

It started right up
"Resurrection", she said,
and came to my aid
tho it were dead.

It ran and ran
but sick all the while...
and finally found
gas in the oil?

Off to the doctor who
fixed him up right.
Back to work
and what a sight.

It ran and ran...
and others said,
"with the miles on that babe
it should be dead!"

My sweet, my love
stayed by my side.
The little Toyota
the bumpy ride.

Then it got sick and
wouldn't start up.
"the starter is shot",
"give it up".

Had to push it to go
but I had no money
Had to wait....
it sure wasn't funny.

Finally came the great
bright day
I had some dough
and ready to pay,

to have the starter
rebuilt and then
it started right up
and ran and ran.

It kept me at work
running to and fro
getting supplies and
customers' delivery so

I could keep working
and pushing toward
the great giant goal
and my great rewards.

I worked to survive
day into right.
I toiled and lifted and poured
with all my might.

And every week
I loaded this car
with such dirty things
the car it did mar.

And dirtier and dustier
and heavier it became.
The paint wore off
it would never be the same.

But on and on it
drove for me,
though it looked old
and tired and weak.

An then one day
the clutch slammed to the floor
and I began to wonder
how to fix the doors.

It seemed the old car
wouldn't last much longer
but the clutch was fixed
and "Wow!" it seemed stronger.

I slammed it into gears,
burned rubber and oh,
what a joy the car seemed
tho dirty and Old.

The neighbors told me
"that old car will fall apart,
It sounds like a truck,
getting harder to start."

But on and on went the
little old car.
My Toyota and me driving
straight to the stars.

Six years later and
thousands of miles,
My hard work,
triumphs and trials......

I come closer and closer
to my great goals.
My little car has always
been my star.

It's hung in there for me
thru rattles and chokes,
and just like me
doesn't miss a stroke.

We both keep going
as tho being chased
by the old salvage yard
or glue and paste.

We don't give up
we push toward
for us both
some great reward.

And when the day comes
when I can relax,
and sit in my chair
and tell of the facts.

That led to this day
of our great reward
I know what I'll do
with this little brave car.

In front of my store
in a spot I have found,
I'll sink his worn nose
straight down in the ground.

And from that day forward
he'll testify the tale
that we never gave up
never tucked our tails.

The Lord is on me to share my story, to write for the hurting and to help the confused push away the clouds.

I've begun sharing my writing according to the Lord's timing. He's calling His children.
