Observations
As black kerchiefs
hide graceful foreheads
ladies sit gratefully
at picnic table's
edge, their humble nature
accepting husband's
kind sharing of
the basket of foodstuffs
children watch silently
waiting for the ritual
to begin-
Mennonites, natural
caring for one another
man and woman
sisters and brothers
Peter's proud of little Anna
hoists her up
to shoulder-height
shiver of pride, shine of smile
from his young eyes
a family in togetherness,
God's plan.
