The Ramp
Front porch is background
for a front lawn choking
with ragweed
clusters of dandelions join
peeled paint, passing
as landscape
wheelchair ramp at an extreme
angle, points to an open
doorway.
Afghan War arms take
two smoking tries to roll
up the incline, sometimes three
painful tumbles
provide a deserved smack.
Remembers
the way it was, wife
and kids, picnics, driving around
lots of laughter. Now it's
useless legs, lots of booze.
Harry's probably ten,
Joan's arms miles away
storm clouds
the only activity around.
