Fire and Ice

by Terry R A Eissfeldt
10/22/2009 / Devotionals

The dead soul is a frozen soul in cryogenic deep freeze; suspended animation.
Layer upon layer of ice mark time passed in the emptiness of lifelessness, like rings on a severed tree trunk.

Yet no soul arrives on the Blue Planet in such a frozen state.

No. All babes carry with them a celestial shimmer.

"Heaven lies about us in our infancy" observes Wordsworth, and that, "at length the man perceive it die away, and fade into the light of common day." *

If left in the original state, that of sin and separation from the Creator, the child heart, the child faith, and the child belief that somebody truly loves them unconditionally, dies.
A heart of cold stone is formed and the first whisper of hellish frost takes hold.

Eventually all evidence of life is covered. What was once flesh color gives way to opaque white, like an ice cube, until the distinct hue worthy of an iceberg, cold blue, is fully developed.

And like an iceberg, floating through life, subject to the currents of culture, the dead soul drifts. Only a portion of the true person is above the surface. So much lies hidden under the deep blue sea.

What can change the path of an iceberg?
What can melt an icy heart?
What can bring color back to the blue tinge of a dead soul?

Fire.

3000 degrees Celsius burns the bright blue living flame from an oxyacetylene torch, capable of cutting metal under water, even the frigid water of the Arctic. It can easily cut through ice; like a sharp knife through butter.

The Word of God is sharper than any knife. He alone can divide between soul and spirit.

The Fire of God is hotter than any flame. He alone can cut away the dead and revive the life.

The only answer for the dead, the stone cold, and the drifting, is Jesus.

"I will give you a new heart and a put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone ...and give you a new heart of flesh." Ezekiel 37:26
