The Storm
by Rhonda McKissack
2/01/2007 / Poetry
Just outside my window sill
I saw a streaking light
It lit up all the heavens
Many times into the night
By morning it was raining
And the thunder rumbled loud
This storm was quite remarkable
The sky with darken clouds
I didn't sleep a wink that night
Being mesmerized by the storm
The hail, the wind, the eerie sounds
As the clouds kept changing form
Then all at once it passed on through
As I watched the sun arise
And it turned out to be a beautiful day
Much to my surprise
The flowers that were limp and wet
Took on a brand new shape
They only needed a little rain
the dryness they could escape
The tress stood strong and very still
And protected the nest within
The rainbow appeared across the sky
As if there were no end
Next time I see a storm like this
and watch it all take place
I'll remember the beauty it leaves behind
By God's amazing Grace
