The Carpenter

Have you met the great Carpenter? We frequently think of Jesus as a carpenter. I did not realize until recently that following in His earthly father's footsteps is recorded only once in scripture. It is spoken in sarcasm. "Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us? So they were offended at Him (Mark 6:3 NKJ)." They saw Him only as a local boy reaching for acclaim.
Jesus worked along side Joseph earlier learning the builder's trade. It would prepare Him for future carpentry assignments. During His earthly ministry He demonstrated His superior skills in building lives! His greatest work began within seeking hearts. He needed no hammer or nails, only the penetrating sword of His cutting word. He sanded off rough edges with the plain truth. Lives became open house demonstrations of His building experience!
The Messiah chose simple followers, called disciples, in advance of His next building project. He would build a church and they would expand the dimensions! He built it upon His sacrificial foundation, the Rock! They would carry on His work after He returned to the Father. They received His Holy Spirit power, spread His word, and packed the house! The Son of Man is the Master builder of God's kingdom. He alone holds the blueprints and all credit for the glorious structure must go directly to Him. Yes, this is the carpenter, the Son of Mary!
