On The Horizon....

by Shannon Heiden

"Here comes that dreamer!" they said to each other. (Genesis 37:19 NIV)

Beautiful One, did you know that if you don't have a dream, than your dream can't come true? And while were on the subject, since when do dreams know boundaries anyway?

We are nearing the end of another year. As we look back we can see where we had ups and downs, successes and setbacks. Maybe we started this year off with great expectations. Maybe our expectations and intentions encountered troubles along the way. Troubles that seemed to push us back rather than propel us forward.

But whether we were setback or moved forward doesn't really matter. In the end, everything we encountered is all part of the plan. Everything will all work together and for our good. In fact, usually our setbacks are actually setups. They are the very blueprints for our amazing comebacks that usher us into the thing God had in store for us all along.

Beautiful One, we need to remember that no matter the obstacles, or the troubles we face; God is in control. The Bible says clearly that the steps of man are directed by the Lord. (Proverbs 20:24 NIV) So if you have stepped into some trouble along your way, be of good cheer. There has never been a step you didn't take that God himself didn't already foresee and make provision for.

There are countless men and women that God loved and chose to fulfill a specific purpose on this earth. You can see a common thread in each of their lives. The thread of trouble. Trouble connected these people to their destinies. Don't ever let anyone tell you that you got into trouble because you weren't in the will of God.

That may not be true at all. Jesus was in the will of God and he went to the cross. Job was in the will of God and hardship and heartache came knocking upon his door. Joseph was in the will of God, God even gave him a series dreams showing him what was on the horizon in his life, but before Joseph experienced the fulfillment of his dreams he first went through (many) troubles and trials. Joseph experienced many dark places that totally contradicted what God had shown him in his heart.

Furthermore, Joseph was hated and despised because of his dreams. His own family members were actually the ones who held disdain for him. In the beginning stages, after God brought Josephs dreams to light, his very own brothers were actually responsible for pushing Joseph into the pit of despair and discouragement. Or so they thought. What was meant to trip Joseph up, was actually the very first step in sending that boy on his way to his destiny.

Which leads me to my second warning. Sometimes your greatest opposition will come from those who are the closest to you. The ones who are supposed to have your back, can actually be the ones who stab it, and repeatedly I might add.

But we need to remember that it's all part of the plan. Nothing has ever escaped the attention of Gods careful eye. Your story was written from beginning to end. No matter what kind of opposition hits your home, no matter who, when or where it comes from does not mean you're not going to make it. It means that it's actually going to be even greater than you have imagined because great trouble only befalls great people! So never give up on your dreams. God knows all of your limitations, shortcomings and insecurities. He knows who stands with you, who fights you and who will walk away and leave you.

We may be confused and discouraged along the way but we can always be sure of this; if anyone sticks their foot out to trip us, God will surely use that foot as a stool so we may step on up into what He has in store for us.

So go ahead and dream. Aim for what's on the horizon. Dream big, because dreams have no boundaries, and with God all things are possible!

Beautiful One, just believe and let it be said of you; "here comes that dreamer!"
