Have you ever taken an old fashioned sleigh ride? The tradition carries on through songs even in tropical climates that never see snow. Sleigh rides seem very romantic. Sweethearts snuggle close to keep warm as they drift across the snow. I'm spoiled by car heaters and would be miserable if left outside in a sleigh for an extended time. I'll settle for pictures of sleighs and happy tunes.
Elijah the prophet took a ride that makes any sleigh excursion seem like a waste of time. "So he said, You have asked a hard thing. Nevertheless, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if not, it shall not be so. Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven (2 Kings 2:10-11 NKJ)." Sleigh rides provide inspiration for Christmas customs. Chariots of fire found their place of honor in the word of God.
