A CALL TO SERVICE
by Dr. Chas Brothers
1/12/2010 / Testimonies
When the gospel was first introduced to me, I felt like my life for the first time had purpose and meaning and that I was invincible because of my new relationship with God. The more I studied God's word and applied it to my life, the more I wanted to become a preacher.
God had a different plan for my life and not preparing properly for it, I soon fell by the wayside. It would be another 15 years before I totally committed myself to Christ Jesus before it would "stick". In between then God was ever faithful and waited on me patiently until I became something he could use.
One day at work after finishing my breakfast, I didn't feel very well. My chest was tight, my breaths were shallow and I started to sweat. Our local safety officer for our company checked me over and called the paramedics.
I was rushed to the hospital as I was having a heart attack. Even in the midst of the attack, I was never frightened or worried for I was truly a son of God and knew that my Father was in control of everything around me.
Never before in the recorded history of my life was I so prepared to meet my Maker and enter into eternity with Him. A peace had fallen over me and I knew I was in God's hands!
The doctors administered their anesthesia and I was out for the count. When I woke up.When I woke up!! I was still in the hospital and hadn't been delivered. I couldn't have been more disappointed! Everything I knew about our Father had left me as I had an overwhelming sense of abandonment by God.
I felt so unworthy and unwanted because I hadn't been taken that I fell into depression. I consulted my doctors and other professionals seeking an answer to why I wasn't taken by God. I was ready what happened? No one could give me an answer do you know why? I was looking for the answers in all the wrong places!
Instead of looking around me for help, I needed to look up for it would be there that my answers would be found. I was so consumed with my finding an immediate answer to my situation that I forgot about God's wants and needs. Once I realized this, I felt an overwhelming sense of shame and conviction. How dare I be so self centered and full of pity.
My God is an awesome God and I failed to give Him that credit! I was finally at a place where God wanted me to exactly be so He could use me according to His will. God granted me my prayers on becoming a minister but also granted me even more knowledge so that I might help others.
The aftermath of the heart attacked served as a valuable lesson to me that God does what God does and that I will follow wherever He leads and do so without hesitation. I have never enjoyed more blessings in my life than I do now by following God's great plan for my life.
Some of the medications that the doctors had given me to take following my heart attack actually induced another attack! Back to the hospital I went but this time, things were very different.
I knew that God had other plans for my life and that I was to be a vessel whereby I could help His flock here on earth. Wouldn't you like to know this kind of peace and comfort that only God can provide?
God patiently waits on those who seek Him. If you're unsure of your relationship with our Father and with His Son Jesus Christ, contact me. Together, we'll seek guidance from the Father to eliminate those things which are interfering with your walk with God.
