Falling Short

by Daniel Myers
2/03/2010 / Christian Living

Trying to make my mark in the Christian world, more times than not, I find myself falling short. Falling short of personal goals I have established for myself whether man inspired or God given directives. I think at times it's the same for everyone. I mean no one gets out of bed in the morning and says; I think I'll fail today or come up short. We're just not made that way and we have the Father to thank for that. A big portion of your personal success rate is where you have Jesus and the Holy Spirit placed in the wheel that makes up the center of your life. For many its trust issues or control issues that keep and hinder you from experiencing the full measure of what God has to offer you. A life, any life not Christ or Holy Spirit centered and directed is going to fall short I guarantee it! Even in matters of advertising our faith we fall short. Whoever came up with the vanity plate that states "God is my Co-Pilot", missed the boat completely! God should be the pilot!! Each of us is divinely made; shouldn't we also be divinely directed? Why wouldn't you want the help of the only Person who knows you better than anyone in the world and who knew you before you were born take the helm of your life to give you smooth sailing? In the roughest seas of life or the bumps in the road that life offers each of us we should want and ask for the help of the best Pilot out there to steer and direct our course. I remember in my own life, I wasn't Christ centered so I wandered aimlessly through life looking for the next best thing to help me cope. My friends, there is no next best thing! If you're a believer, if you're saved, only a life turned completely over to Christ Jesus will endure the tests of life. Why fall short if you don't have to? When you live a Christ centered life, you will know it and for that matter, so will everyone around you. Your demeanor is different, the way you talk, the care you take about your appearance. These are not the qualities of a person in a shortfall of Grace. Will all your problems be solved or be over? On the contrary: testing will occur, your faith will be tempered in the fire of adversity. There were times when I was persecuted at work for being a Christian sometimes even by other "Christians". I rejoiced in those times for I knew God cared enough about me to test my resolve and complete trust in Him and His perfect will for my life. Our God is a God of second chances and we are all given a choice. When we fall down or fall short, we can pick ourselves back up, pray about or praise the situation, or get discouraged and give up and suffer depression or anxiety. If you are firmly rooted in the word of God and a true child of the King, those times will be your most glorious joy filled moments! I'm excited that our Father is the Champion of the downtrodden, the Giver of second and third chances, the Calm in the storms of life, the Author and finisher of our faith, and never ever leaves us alone but sends a Helper to maneuver us through the darts of the devil. Rest assured that the closer you get to God and His Son Jesus Christ, the more the devil will tempt and test your resolve. He is the king of the earth and his job is to make you fall short and blame yourself for your shortcomings and to throw them up in your face repeatedly until you're so far under you can't make yourself see the light at the end of the tunnel. But praise God that while the Devil is whispering all your sins and shortcomings in His ear; we have an Advocate in Jesus Christ who justifies us through what He did on Calvary's cross. The best and worst thing that ever happened to us as a people was and is the concept of free will. With free will comes responsibility and we should have never been trusted with so great a power. Free will says it's not okay to fail America loves a winner, no one remembers who came in second. Free will says its okay to make fun of those with disabilities, or those who look different, or people we think are ugly, or people of color. Free will gives us the right to kill unborn babies at a phenomenal rate every year just as matter of convenience. Free will also gives us the right to say Haiti is now suffering the seeds they sowed over 200 years ago. I wonder when it's America's turn to be judged by God how well we'll fair or will we fall short because of our free will? Every God fearing Christian knows the answer to that question. Trust in God, trust what Christ did on the cross for you and for me, trust in the Holy Spirit to lead in all aspects of your life. If you want real change, that's the recipe for success. People who wait until the eleventh hour to make a decision for Christ end up dying at ten thirty. Don't let yourself fall short in such an important matter of life. Whether you believe or not, you will one day face a Holy God who hates sin and unbelief in any form and you will be judged accordingly. How that goes depends entirely upon you and the decisions or lack of decisions you make now. No one knows the appointed time of their death or the circumstances surrounding it but one thing's for certain, we will all eventually die. How glorious or how sad that death depends entirely upon you. God patiently waits on those who seek Him. If you're unsure of your relationship with our Father and with His Son Jesus Christ, contact me. Together, we'll seek guidance from the Father to eliminate those things which are interfering with your walk with God.
