Christian Giving: Does Your Praise Include Christian Giving?

by Robert Baines
2/06/2010 / Devotionals

Christian giving is a reference to Christians giving money to God, in proportion to the money that God has allowed them to receive. All Christians ought to strive to give at least ten percent of their income (i.e., tithing) and then offerings. Don't stop reading (smile).

A key idea in this series of devotionals, "Praise God Anyhow," based on II Samuel 6:12-16, 20-23,is that "We should be mindful of praise, despising, and determination."

In this devotional, let's continue to focus on praise. Notice that David's praise included not only his dancing but also his giving. In fact, his dancing came after he gave.

There are too many who think God is worthy of free or cheap praise. We dance for free. We move in various ways for free. We make noise for free. But if our praise does not cause us to give, one is well within one's right to ask, "Is our heart in our praise?"

Matthew 6:21 teaches that where one's treasurer is that is where one's heart is. To dance but not be committed to giving makes one rightfully wonder, "Does the dance come from a proper attitude of praise?" Let's praise God with dance or some expression of praise and giving.

Self Examination

How are you doing with praising God with your giving?

What are you going to do to improve in this area?

Prayer

God I praise You for being such a great and awesome God. You are the creator, sustainer, and hope of all creation.

Thank You for showering seen and unseen blessings into the lives of my loved ones and into my life. Thank You for being much better to us than we deserve.

I confess my many sins to You, including my not giving to You as I should. Please forgive me and help me to grow in this area.

Bless my loved ones and me to be what You are calling us to be. Have Your way in our lives, because Your way is best for us. Thank You, in Jesus' name. Amen.
