Whatever Is.....

by Shannon Heiden

Beautiful One, many of us have heard the saying; 'whatever will be, will be." Maybe you've said it yourself? As if to say in not so many words, there are some things that are out of our control and we just have to accept it. But may I suggest that we don't settle in life for such a fate. May I suggest that it's not whatever will be, that determines our outcome. But whatever God says IS, will be.

How many times have our lives encountered hardship and because we didn't quite know how to deal with it effectively, or it didn't just depend on us because someone else was involved, have we found ourselves silently succumbing to the lie that things just wont change?

It's very easy to do actually. Sometimes when the battle is long and hard, it just takes it's toll on us. One day we wake up to find that our faith has been seared, our trust is gone and we simply cannot even imagine things being any different then they are.

Beautiful One, may I encourage you with this; hard times, long battles and yes even doubt and fear all have a purpose. When we are poured out of ourselves, when nothing is left in us, thats when God does some of his best work. Sometimes in order for us to truly live, we actually have to die to all that we've known first.

When our lives have gone through abuses, traumas, and we've been in crisis and survival mode, sometimes God has to get us to the complete end of ourselves,

One of my favorite stories in the Bible is that of Joseph. As his life unfolds we see God had bestowed something special on him as a young boy. Some have said Joseph was arrogant and was always showing off to his brothers. He loved parading around in his coat of many colors that his father had only given to him. Well, I don't know of any youth that wouldn't do that, so thats not surprising.

But what is surprising is that the ones that were the closest to him, the ones who were supposed to have his back are the very ones who stabbed it. Joseph was thrown in a pit, sold into slavery, lied about, and his brothers, the ones who caused it all went on in life as if nothing happened. When you read about what Joseph went through, from beginning to end, one must wonder why if God had given him a gift, and purpose, why did Joseph have to walk through so much injustice?

Joseph was taken to Egypt, and went through systems and abuses for years. Eventually he ended up in prison for something he didn't do, and I often wonder how the conversations between him and the Lord went. It's one thing to have faith when you have your coat of many colors on and life is well with you. Then there's real faith when your sitting in darkness with everything you know being questioned.

Sitting in a prison cell for thirteen years, knowing he had a purpose and that God loved him and was with him, but also knowing that being bound (unjustly I might add) was his reality and had been for quite some time. Having all those years to think about what had happened to him. Knowing his family had caused so much pain, knowing people had lied about him his whole existence and knowing he was paying the price for a crime he didn't commit. How hard that must've been. No matter how much we want to glorify the people in the Bible, they were not super human. They were just like you and I. They had feelings no different then us.

Coming to a point in our life when we just accept, especially after years have gone by, that well, whatever will be will be, sounds good. It at least helps us to cope doesn't it? But thank God, we are loved by a God who just wont settle on our behalf.

Joseph was given a dream, and by our great God, it was going to come to pass, because God said so..

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and no matter how many of them are hard and painful, just as in Josephs case, God will use every single one of them for something good.

Who would've thought that the moment Joe's brothers threw him in that pit, that they actually threw him into his destiny? Who would've thought that after Potiphars wife lied about him and he got thrown into a prison cell, that he was actually being catapulted into the presence of royalty? Who would've thought that being buried underground for years in darkness, that in one day, God would bring him up and out, and shine the spotlight on him?

It's no wonder that when Joseph was seated next to the king, and came face to face with his offenders, that he forgave them. Because when we know that all that we've been through had a purpose, and that God is with us, no matter what happened to us along our way, we like Joseph can let go of all that has kept us bound. Only when we know that God will repay us, can we stop making others pay.

God did it for Joesph, and surely, He will do it for us too. When times of darkness fall upon us, God is there to remind us that whatever He said will be, IS!

Beautiful One, just believe in whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. Because this will get you through to the other side. (Philippians 4:8 NASB)
