Mountains High, Valleys Low
by Pam Ford Davis 4/20/2010 / Devotionals
Life is a series of both mountain top and valley experiences. We would not appreciate the scenic high view if we never walked in the darkness of valleys. The exhilaration of breathing the fresh air in high altitudes may leave us light headed temporarily. We need not be concerned. View the horizon and commune with God.
King David personally experienced emotional highs and lows. Physically he sat upon a throne, and yet at times cowered in caves. We learn much from him. "David went on up the slope of the Mount of Olives. He was barefoot and crying, and he covered his head to show his sorrow. Everyone with him was crying, and they covered their heads, too (2 Samuel 15:30 CEV)." His own son Absalom seized his throne. As David's feet clung to a mountain, his heart sunk to a valley of despair.
There will be a descent down rocky cliffs to walk among valley dwellers. Our natural desire is to remain above. Ask God to reveal truth through dark days. His promises are hidden behind clouds and showered upon us through His grace. Open your eyes to discover the needs of those among you. Many have never even looked above. Hopelessness blinds them to the higher life. Share encouragement and describe victory through trials. You can climb together.
