Christain Code of Conduct
Meekness
Jesus Christ spoke in the sermon on the mount,he spoke about the codes of conduct that leads to a blessed life. However before we go forward I will like to remind you that these codes of conduct in Mathew 5:1-12 , contrast the earthly and worldly values to kingdom and eternal values. Jesus Christ was concerned to let his followers know what they should be like as his followers instead of the outward religion and pretence of the Pharisees. Today ask yourself Are your attitudes a reflection of the world's selfishness, pride, lust for power and competition or does it reflect the commitment, obedience to God and Self Sacrifice of Christ for the good of others ?Today we will Look at one of the codes , which is meekness
Mathew 5:5-7
5Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.

Lets look closely at the qualities , principles, and code of conduct Jesus is talking about here.
Mathew 5:5
1. Blessed are the Meek-"The meek are those who are humble and submissive before God". They Find their refuge in him , are lead by him , they commit their ways entirely into his hands , they are more concerned about God and his plans than about what will happen to them personally. Psalm 37:11. A meek person is the opposite of an aggressor. Who picks out fights, enjoys strife, can not overlook an offence. Always angry, on the offensive, critical and complaining.
Aggressors operate in the world system where Dog eats Dog, survival of the fittest operate. In the world the weak get trampled and the oppressed, the strong ,the fierce, the pushfull and aggressive gets success. In the kingdom it is not so, It is the meek , rather than the aggressors that will ultimately inherit the earth.
Meekness is not a weakness . It is power , inner strength with self control. It is a person who can be angry when needed , but someone who generally is able to control himself in all situations.

An example is Isaac Despite several frustrations he controlled himself . He continued his digging until he dug where no one could strife with him. He knew he carried the blessings of God , Therefore he knew he had no reasons to fight those contending with him. This is meekness.
Genesis 26:20-22
20 But the herdsmen of Gerar quarreled with Isaac's herdsmen and said, "The water is ours!" So he named the well Esek, [a] because they disputed with him. 21 Then they dug another well, but they quarreled over that one also; so he named it Sitnah. [b] 22 He moved on from there and dug another well, and no one quarreled over it. He named it Rehoboth, [c] saying, "Now the LORD has given us room and we will flourish in the land."
Another example of meekness his Abraham . He refused to quarrel with his brother even when that one tried to cheat him , He allowed the Lord to decide.
Genesis 13:8 8 So Abram said to Lot, "Let's not have any quarreling between you and me, or between your herdsmen and mine, for we are brothers.
Hannah was another example of meekness. If she had gotten angry at the prophets words she could have missed her miracle.
1 Samuel 1:13-16
13 Hannah was praying in her heart, and her lips were moving but her voice was not heard. Eli thought she was drunk 14 and said to her, "How long will you keep on getting drunk? Get rid of your wine."
15 "Not so, my lord," Hannah replied, "I am a woman who is deeply troubled. I have not been drinking wine or beer; I was pouring out my soul to the LORD. 16 Do not take your servant for a wicked woman; I have been praying here out of my great anguish and grief."
Meekness is being slow to anger and wrath .
Jesus Christ was the ultimate example of Meekness . He refused to use his power to save himself from fulfilling Gods will Mathew 26:52-54.He refused to fight back those who were spitting on him and slapping him. He could have destroyed them. Yet he restrained himself. God can never give his power to anyone without restraint. It is only the meek that can carry Gods anointing. When needed Jesus was angry, i.e. the cleansing of the temple . God's words say's be angry but sin not. However almost all the time he was meek and self controlled. He was meek in the following ways
a. He was not rebellious to Gods will .Isaiah 50:5
5 The Sovereign LORD has opened my ears,
and I have not been rebellious;
I have not drawn back
Matthew 26:39
39Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will."

b. He did not hide or preserve himself from persecution . He faced it headlong according to the will of God. Today we deny Christ when out of self preservation we don't do his work-in evangelizing our family , friends , neighbors and colleagues at work . , Isaiah 50:6
6 I offered my back to those who beat me,
my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard;
I did not hide my face
from mocking and spitting
c. He was meek in submitting to authority. In the true sense , Jesus was greater than John the Baptist , but he recognized the principle of Spiritual authority that he had to be ordained and proclaimed into His ministry by a predecessor. So he fulfilled all righteousness. And because of this God honored him , was pleased with him and proclaimed him himself. Mathew 3 13-15
13Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. 14But John tried to deter him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?" 15Jesus replied, "Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness." Then John consented. 16As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. 17And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."
d. Jesus was meek in that he submitted to the will of the father completely against his own will. He humbled himself and disregarded his own needs , emotions and feelings to carry out the fathers will.
Meekness is the Key to having our inheritance. God always honors meekness. Meekness is not stupidity or foolishness . It is a very wise kingdom principle , and Code of conduct . The meek will inherit the earth .Jesus said Blessed are the meek for they will inherit the earth
In Mathew 5:5 Jesus said
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth

The psalmist David also said in psalms 25:9-10

He guides the meek in what is right
and teaches them his way.

10 All the ways of the LORD are loving and faithful
for those who keep the demands of his covenant.

This really made me feel we ought to dig deeper to realise what meekness does for us before God.

God can only guide the meek in what is right, he can only teach the meek his ways.

This is because there is a sense of humility in the meek that makes them realise that they need to be guided to do right, that they need to be led into truth.

There is awareness that the Lord is their strength and shield, thus they have learnt to lean their entire lives, personality and life on God.

Examples of David's Meekness

1. David I Sam 17;28, 2nd Sam,16;9-14,Psalm 38;13-14,Psalm 120;5-7

Blessings of meekness

1. Satisfaction in life; psalms 22:26
2. Guidance in Judgement Psalm 25:9
3. Deep revelations of the knowledge of God and understanding of His ways Psalm25:9
4. The Earth is given to them as an inheritance , they prosper , they are given tenfold portions of what they don't hold on to ie Abraham as we learnt last week , they are blessed .Psalm 37:11,Mathew 5:5
5. Salvation is theirs psalm 76;9, psalm 149:4
6. God helps them in a special way pslam147:6
7. Increased and everlasting joy Isaiah 29:19
8. The presence of the holy spirit and the other fruits of the spirit. I have found that meekness and temperance [self control are the foundations on which most of the other fruits thrive } a meek person will be humble , seek to be good before God , will be kind and not judgemental of others etc. MEEKNESS GIVES A BALANCED VEIW OF OURSLEVES AND WE ARE THERFORE BETTER ABLE TO RELATE TO GOD AND THEN TO ONE ANOTHER . A meek person is not proud , they are pragmatic about their limitations and Gods abilities. Galatians 5;22-23
9. God makes a meek person a blessing to others Galatians 6;1 . They are able to strike the balance to help the restoration of others. I have seen zealous people without knowledge destroy the church , because they are not meek. I have not seen anywhere in scripture that a child, or a person under authority rebukes a person who has authority over them , it is foolishness and lack of wisdom . The only incident that people quote is Paul and Peter. But at no time was Paul under Peters authority , they were parallel as ,Apostles , one was an apostle to jews and another to gentiles , it was a parallel anointing. Bible says pray for your leaders and advice them, but leave them, to make up their minds and once they have decided submit to be a follower, God is not an author of confusion. If you cannot follow a leader for whatever reason to be discipled by them leave them, so you are not damned as a rebel which carries same consequence as witchcraft . Our calling orders and code of conduct is pray for your leaders in meekness . For those we do have authority to rebuke , we are to do it in a spirit of meekness in a bid to restore them . I always like to leave the door open to all who leave our ministry for one thing or the other , because even though people are not meek to you today it does not mean that God cannot make them be a blessing in future ie Apostle Paul and David Mark . they reconciled and the former became one of the best profitable followers of Paul's ministry . God wants us to be meek in our relationships. We become a blessing to others when we are meek as followers as well as when we retain the same meekness as leaders. We stop being a blessing to God and others when we loose the touch of meekness

Meekness gives us patience that will ultimately make us inherit . ie a woman having problems in the home can decide to be the meek party . God will reward , a person who is harassed in their family , working place yet choose meekness , they will inherit . Meekness brings patience and longsuffering 2 Tim2;23-26.

Sisters and Brothers with the above rewards and blessings of meekness ,

Let us realise that meekness should not be viewed in the church as a weakness but one of the greatest strengths of a Christian .In 2nd Corinthians 10;1-11. specifically In verse 1 we see apostle Paul appealing to the people in meekness and gentleness .He failed to measure up to the Corinthians image of a powerful person . He was therefore telling them in the verses after that we don't need to war as the world wars we don't need to be strong as the world is , our strength and warfare , must be judged only in the Spirit. He told them in verse, 2, 4-6 and 11 that meekness is never and shall never be weakness or timidity , it is the greatest strength of a Christian

Please lets pray the above blessings into our lives as we ask God to empower us in the spirit while making us meek and broken, retrained ,and self controlled in the flesh

Like Apostle Paul said Gods strength is made perfect in weakness.
