The Tale of Two Cities

by Jack Vorster
5/31/2010 / Christian Living

Did you know that the activities of every living human being on this planet are being orchestrated to conform to the governing power of two opposing cities? In fact, one of these two cities has a death grip over the world's population and is in a battle with the other city to hold on to its reign over the world's sea of humanity.

Both these cities are huge. They are so big that they are regarded as Kingdoms. However, regardless of their size, they cannot be seen, for they both exist within the spiritual realm. Nevertheless, their influence in the natural realm is so intense an extensive that they might as well be physically present.

Now here lies the mystery. The spiritual city with the death grip on the world is evil. Its reign over the inhabitants of the Earth has transformed the world into the literal version of itself. Babylon is the name of the literal city. Yes, so steeped has the world become in the evil sown by its unseen master that Earth is regarded as an extension of that city.

Mystery, Babylon the Great, the Mother of Harlots and Abominations of the Earth, is the full title of the spiritual Babylon also known as the Kingdom of Darkness. And the world is in total captivity to this power of darkness. The grand master of this kingdom is Satan and he has succeeded in turning Earth into a den of iniquity, bringing disease, depravity, destruction and death to all the creatures made in the image of God. The amazing irony of it all is that he has used the minds of men to accomplish this.

Up to this point in time spiritual Babylon has been the launching pad for attacks against all of humanity. Pretty soon it will be plucked from its spiritual location and cast down to the Earth to merge with its counterpart, literal Babylon. That's when we will hear the cry, "Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit..." (Rev 18:2)

Spiritual Babylon and the literal city of Babylon (the whole Earth) will have become one. Side by side with man will evil spirits dwell and plunder the earth and the lives of men.

In the days of Noah judgment from God came in the form of water. Now judgment will come by fire. No ship laden with goods will be able to enter any port of literal Babylon (Earth), for it will be ablaze. "And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off. And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, what city is like unto this great city?" (Rev 18:17,18)

During the reign of the city of Babylon (the Kingdom of Darkness) over the Earth, the other city, the city of God, the New Jerusalem, also known as the Kingdom of Light, has been rescuing a great many sons of men, translating them from the power of darkness into the Kingdom of God. They remained on the Earth, in this world, but not of this world. They reigned, together with Christ, as kings and priests on the Earth in God's spiritual Kingdom, which was within them.

A few years before literal Babylon was burning, they were snatched away to escape the wrath of God upon literal Babylon (the Earth). Those who refused to reject the reign of Satan over their lives and exchange it for the reign of God, to become subjects of the Kingdom of God, were now facing a new choice - that of whether to die as martyrs for their new-found belief in Christ or to take their chances with Satan.

This then, is the tale of two cities, that was, that is and will be.
