(There Was A) Tall Oak Tree
by Pam Ford Davis 7/19/2010 / Devotionals
Hurricane and tornado forceful winds have the power to destroy anything in their path. The first things that topple are trees. I remember the devastation of Opal in the Florida panhandle. Trees were broken and tossed around like drinking straws. Tall pine trees fell like dominoes and mighty oaks were up-rooted, revealing a massive root system formed over decades or centuries.
Oak trees grace the yards of those oppressed in poverty and those who have gained great wealth. Economic status has no effect on their beauty and strength. Could we also grace the lives of those we meet? "To all who mourn in Israel he will give: Beauty for ashes; joy instead of mourning; praise instead of heaviness. For God has planted them like strong and graceful oaks for his own glory (Isaiah 61:3 The Book: Living Bible)." Rooted in God's word and love we desire to bring glory to His name.
