The Least of These

The least of these

"Mona, Have you ever questioned God?"
"Yes, Linda I have. I suppose most people do, occasionally. Why do you ask?"
Linda replied.

"I have been thinking about my Josh . Call it self pity but it is difficult at times to understand God's will."

"You mean because of his handicap?" Linda asked.
"Yes his handicap," I morosely replied.

The day I had tea with Linda was during a time in our life when a good day would have been welcomed. My son when he was a toddler contracted Meningitis, a terrible disease. The disease then caused grand mal seizures, grand mal seizures caused low functioning IQ.

Imagine having a son who is an adult in societies eyes but will never excel to his numerology age. A son who believes he knows everything but fails to realize there is much more to learn. It can be very confusing to a child in an adult body but with a child's brain.

The least of these is based on a true story. I believe there should be more outlets for parents of disabled children. Whether they are physically handicapped or mentally challenged.

We, as parents have questioned God and his sovereign will. I know the children who are the least of these is special in God's heart. He holds them close, and so should we.

They have a purpose on this earth, no matter what some may say. Our sons and daughters may lack self esteem and feel they are useless but it is up to us to teach them different.

Jesus spoke about children and the world needs to listen to his words. If the Father notices when a sparrow falls he surely notices when one of his special children cries out to him.

Let us hold tight to those who need our love and protection. As a mother of a mentally challenged son I am sure I will not experience the empty nest syndrome. Josh wanted to go on his own, living in a special setting. He did for a while but it failed to work.

Why God? A question he hears often. An answer we will have to wait for in eternity. But I have a feeling it wont matter then. We will see Jesus in all of his majesty and our children will be whole.
