No Pacifist
by Ramona Cook
9/07/2010 / Poetry

Reference: Matthew 10:1 and 34-39

There is a notion,
not worthy of devotion,
that permeates our midst,
that Jesus Christ
is a Pacifist.
I think the evil kingdom
takes no delight
when The Lion of Judah
comes into their sight,
for He has come
to conquer them,
to set the captive free;
that doesn't sound
like a pacifist to me.

When I hear the message
of what my Lord has done
and they speak of Him
as the Peaceful One,
I think they do not know
exactly why He came,
nor that He gave us
fighting power
through His Powerful Name!
Our Commander sends us
to war to bring a peace,
to conquer the evil one
and mankind release,
finishing the work that
He Himself secured
by dying on the cross
in the shame that He endured.

Ah! Great Soldier of the Cross,
like You I must be,
paying everyday the cost
to win the victory!
Willing, each day to die
to sin and to myself
to advance Your Way,
supreme above all else.
This requires a Strength
that is flowing from Your Throne,
washing over those
whose names may be unknown.
Yes, Great Soldier of the Cross
like You I must be,
paying everyday the cost,
to win the victory.

So think upon, consider this,
Jesus is no pacifist!
He came to fight a battle,
mankind to reclaim
from the clutches of the devil,
to destroy the evil works,
and to forever reign.
He gave His life!
He left to us the work
that He Himself began.
Shall we say, "It's over?"
Shall we say, "It is complete?"
When as yet
there are those
who do not know
about His hands and feet?

It is true, He did not say
that we should use a sword,
one that's made of metal;
no, we do not force
our message upon
the residents of earth
to require of them to
to embrace our work.
But He did command to us
to use the Sword of His Word
and to use it skillfully
'til each one on earth has heard
the message of His salvation,
the gift of God, to every Nation.
Oh, great Soldier of The Cross
like You I must be,
paying everyday the cost,
to complete the victory!

Matthew, 10: 1 and 34 39 "And when He had called unto Him His twelve disciples, He gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease. " (34 39) "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword." "For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law." "And a man's foes will be those of his own household." "He that loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me." "And he that does not take his cross and follow after Me, is not worthy of Me." "He that finds his life shall lose it: and he that loses his life for My sake, shall find it."

There was Simon Peter
Andrew, James and John,
Philip and Bartholomew,
and Matthew, the publican,
Thomas, James, Alphaeus,
and Simon, the Canaanite,
Labbeaeus, Thaddaeus
and Judas Iscariot.
These are the Disciples names
and many more there be,
names like the one that's yours,
and the one that belongs to me.
