Hope Hijacked Part II

The Investment Of Hope

How Does God Counter The Robbing of Hope Within Us?

Psalms 23:1
A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

This famous verse is communicating how we circumnavigate a heart that is susceptible to deception. The role of a shepherd is partly that of seeing the flock is fed and protected from predators that would devour them,1Peter 5:8. Gods desire is to shepherd our lives, avoiding the ambushes and entrapments the enemy is influencing us to walk into. In doing this, He guides us to avoid feelings of lack and feelings of want that Satan attempts to orchestrate.

What Other Truths Does God Provide Regarding The Investment of Hope?

Job 14:19
The waters wear the stones: thou washest away the things which grow out of the dust of the earth; and thou destroyest the hope of man.

As God allows water to wear away things that grow out of the dust, He likewise allows our hope to be eroded in the investment of things that come from or are connected to the dust. The heart is a complicated spiritual mechanism and it stands to reason that material coming from the dust cannot fuel its spiritual needs. Natural fuel will not feed a spiritual machine. Consequently, God is communicating to us that as the waters wear the stones, so is our hope gradually eroded. Remember, it is a insidious erosion.

What Are The Additional Signs To Be Seen In The Destruction Of Mans Hope?

Job 8:13, 14
So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish: Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spider's web.

The things from the world with which we put our hope and trust ; entrap us like a spider's web. An insect caught in the grasp of a web parallels that of a human who invest their hope in the earth. The following are those parallels:

Any creature caught in a web enters in without seeing it coming. In other words, an ambush. Likewise the heart that invests its hope in the kingdom of the world, never sees or feels the destructive nature when entering in.
Any creature caught in a web begins to struggle to release itself . The more it struggles the more entrapped it becomes. Likewise the heart that realizes a failure in its investment of hope, begins to unconsciously devise a way out. Commonly, what follows is a tighter and more complicated web of entrapment.
Any creature entering and struggling to release itself from a web, is then bound by the spider that rules that web. In essence the victim is put in bondage by the same material that was used to catch it in the first place. Likewise the heart that is entrapped in activity that began as a hopeful investment, may soon find itself in a deeper entrapment called bondage. Bondage is defined in a heart that begins to have desires to exit activity that it starts to recognize as destructive. At the same time this same heart wars against itself because it still has a desire for the activity that its begun to have a desire to exit. The modern day word describing this is "addiction".
Any creature caught and bound by a spiders web, has the life sucked from it by the spider. Likewise a heart that is in the bondage of opposing itself, slowly has its hope and life eroded away as there is no answer in how to manage these warring desires. The heart becomes its own prison with the resulting confusion being projected to others who are in their life.
This scripture says "whose trust shall be a spider's web". The heart described in this process of destruction began by investing hope. Hope that is truly invested must be accompanied by a trust in the activity selected. This trust is what purchases the bondage that transports that heart into the death illustrated by the functioning of a spiders web; "whose trust shall be a spiders web".

Where Are The Clues Explaining Why Our Attempts To Choose What We Need Result In Destruction?

Genesis 3:4 ,5
And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

Four Promises

Ye shall not die
Your eyes shall be opened
Ye shall be as gods
You will have knowledge

The Results

The eyes of Adam and his wife were in fact opened to know something they hadn't known . They became as their own gods when they exercised their own will with no relational aid from God. This exercise to take control left them with this reality:

The one promise that was a complete and total lie was the first promise; "you shall not surely die!" Here is how we apply this today:

The Trick

Each time we act independently from God with no relational aid; we believe our eyes are open to know the truth about our situation to the degree that we make our own choices. We've just acted out the three false promises the serpent stated and when we do:

We Always Produce Within Our Life The Serpents One True Lie : Death

The Bottom Line
Are Your Investments of Hope Proving To Be Wise At The Closing Bell?

I have a desire to see the body of Christ edified. Within the broad spectrum of edification I feel there exists a great need and opportunity for spiritual education at foundational levels. Please contact me about speaking at your church. Dale Linton 410-378-5035 or [email protected]
