Without Blemish

1st Peter 2:5 tells us that we are a living temple, a holy people that offer spiritual sacrifices to God by Jesus Christ. At the top of the list of sacrifices listed in Leviticus chapter one is the freewill offering. Let's look at Leviticus 1:1-9 and see how these instructions can help us.

In verse 2 we find, "if any man of you bring an offering to the Lord" The door is always open. God is ready for what you have to offer Him at any time. "Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me" (Psalm 50:23).

In verse 3 we read that the offering is to be without blemish. Without blemish means whole, or complete. In total sincerity and with all our hearts are we to come to God. "Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless his holy name" (Psalm 103:1). We also see the words "of his own voluntary will" The Hebrew word for voluntary will is "ratsown" (rat-tson') and is the same word used for our english word "pleasure" in Psalm 103:21; " Bless ye the Lord, all ye his hosts; ye ministers of his, that do his pleasure." And again in verse 3 "at the doorbefore the Lord." We bring our sacrifice to Jesus. He is the door. "Open to me the gates of righteousness; I will go into them, and I will praise the Lord. This gate of the Lord, into which the righteous shall enter. I will praise thee; for thou hast heard me, and art become my salvation. The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner. This is the Lord's doing; it is marvelous in our eyes" (118:19-23).

In verse 4 we see that the sacrifice is accepted for atonement. God always blesses us with his righteousness when we worship Him. "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits; who forgiveth all thine iniquities; and healeth all thy diseases." (Psalm 103:2, 3)

Verse 5; "And he shall kill the bullock" We must do our part. We must be willing to break away from the world and receive a blessing from God. "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise." (Psalm 51:17).

Verse 6; "He shall flay the burnt offering, and cut it into his pieces." We can expect to hear from God as we come to him in sincere worship. "Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts; and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom" (Psalm 51:6).

In verses 7 and 8 we find that the priests help with the sacrifice. We always sense God's presence much more in the fellowship of other saints. "My praise shall be of thee in the great congregation; I will pay my vows before them that fear him" (Psalm 22:25).

Verse 9; "But his inwards and his legs shall he wash in water" The worshiper completes one final task. God wants a thoroughly clean sacrifice. "Who can understand his errors? Cleanse thou me from secret faults" (Psalm 19:12).

Finally in verse 9 the priests burn all upon the alter for a sweet savour unto the Lord. God receives the sacrifice and the worshiper is blessed. "Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation" (Psalm 68:19).

Praise Jesus. Just want to share the Joy!
