Let the Earth Rejoice A Fun Bible Object Lesson for Your Kids

by Kathy Vincent

Psalm 97:1 says this: "The Lord reigneth, let the earth rejoice." If the earth could speak, what do you think it would say it has to rejoice about? I think it would thank God for all its beauty like the mountains and the ocean and the people who live on it. Here is a fun Bible object lesson to teach your children that even the earth has reason to rejoice because the Lord reigns.

Here's what you do:
The object you will use for this lesson will be a globe of the earth that you can attach a smiling face to.

Ask the following questions to help stimulate discussion:

1. What am I holding? (Wait for responses.) That's right. It's a globe of the earth.
2. Does my earth look happy or sad? (Wait for responses.) Yea! It's happy! In fact, I would say it's rejoicing!
3. If the earth could speak, what do you think it would say it has to rejoice about? (Wait for responses such as its mountains are beautiful. It gives food to its people.)
4. Ask a child to read Psalm 97:1.
5. Let's learn a little more about this Bible verse and learn how to apply it to our own lives. Here are 3 important points.

Point 1: Our verse today kind of uses a strange word. It says that, "The Lord reigns." Now this word "reigns" is not the kind of rain you see fall down from the sky. This "reigns" means that Jesus our Lord is the Ruler or King of all the earth. He controls everything and the earth rejoices or is full of joy because Jesus rules.

Point 2: If we believe that God is in control of this great big earth, then we don't ever have to be afraid. If God can stop the mighty ocean from going only as far as He wants it to go, he can stop any enemies that want to harm His children. And just like He pours down rain from the sky to make the flowers grow, He will pour down His love to you.

Point 3: This earth is big, but God is so much bigger. Remember that His mighty hand is in control of everything in your life. He is in control over both the good and difficult things. But someday we won't live on this earth any longer. We'll live in Heaven. But for right now let's be like the earth and rejoice because the Lord reigns!

This 3-Point Bible Object Lesson for Kids was inspired by my reading of C.H. Spurgeon's devotional on Psalm 97:1 from his book Morning and Evening. You too can be inspired by your favorite Christian authors and come up with your own 3-Point Sermon for Kids.
