God's Gateway

Clambering down Mount Snowdon in Wales late one afternoon after day of hiking my family and I were confronted by the fascinating sight of a sheepdog on duty. He was a beautiful animal, well trained and well groomed. In a flurry of dust and a cacophony of bleating he shepherded the flock of sheep down the mountain side, across the path we were walking on and through a gate into a green field.

The sheepdog was amazing has he focussed single-minded on the flock, herding them, one-by-one, through the narrow sheep gate in the stone wall to my left. Each of the sheep was guided through this small opening and into the meadow beyond while the shepherd stood guard, counting his precious sheep one at a time as they passed through the gate. There was only one way into the meadow and every animal had to enter through that way.

Jesus said, "I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture," (Jn 10:9). He also said, "But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it," (Matt 7:14). Traditionally a sheep gate is narrow so that only one sheep can pass through it at a time, enabling the shepherd to count each one as it enters the pen. By this analogy, Jesus was pointing out that he is the narrow single way to enter eternal life with God. As we come to the Good Shepherd through Jesus, he welcomes us each individually and intimately. Father God loved the world so much that he sent Jesus to become the gateway to eternal life by dying in our place and then rising from the dead. Through the One many enter in.

Perhaps you find yourself plodding along the dusty hillside of life today without any direction. Know this, there is a gate on the other side of the path; a small one-man gate, designed specifically for you. And his name is Jesus, God's gateway.

God-tracking is entering in through the one small gate.

Blessings

Dudley

"God judges a man not by the point he has reached, but by the way he is facing; not by distance, but by direction." --- James Stewart

Don't Give Up, Look Up!
Look up and Fix Your Eyes on Jesus!

Thank You for My Full Life

John 10:1 & 10
"I tell you the truth, the man who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

Pray
"Jesus, thank you so much that you have become my gateway to God. I realise that I have been wrong in my thinking that there are many ways to enter your rest. I now know that the truth is, there is only one way to eternal life and that way is through Jesus, the Gate. I admit to my sin, O God, and repent in Jesus' name. I choose now to put my faith in you as I confess Jesus as Lord and saviour. I believe that you, Jesus, died and rose again. Come into my life as I willingly give my life to you. Thank you for my full life. Amen."
