Doing What God Tells You to Do

Ever since I became a true follower of Jesus back in the 1970s I have been taught the need to remain in the perfect will of God. I have learned that God is a loving caring Father who has a perfect designer purpose for each life that is in submission to him; a design that follows his sovereign plans. The scripture tells us that God knows the plans he has for us. These plans of God are the will of God for each believer. However, the truth of this statement is that it is God himself who knows his plans for me but I do not. Yet, I need to remain in his will. Therefore, I need to daily discover God's plans and track his purposes for my life on a continual basis. In other words, I need to remain in his perfect will. This is what God-tracking is all about.

Writing to the Colossians, by the Holy Spirit, Paul says, "we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding," (Col 1:9). Notice that the knowledge of God's will for you comes through wisdom and understanding. "Understanding of what?" you may well ask; understanding of God's instructions both generically and personally through the Bible and through the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.

Colossians 1:10 goes on to say, "And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God." Earlier in verse 9 we read about wisdom. Wisdom is applied knowledge. If the knowledge of God and his will come through the Word and the Spirit then the application of this knowledge (i.e. wisdom) is fruitful good works; that is doing what God tells you to do!

Dear God Tracker, what has the Lord been telling you to do? Have your heard his instructions to serve him? Indeed, have you chosen to track his plans and purposes by totally submitting all your life to him? Are you actively functioning according to God's revealed plans as an act of doing good works, by faith? Have you transformed your thinking and your own life's plans in order to test and approve what God's will is; his good and perfect will? Remember, although not always a comfortable place to be, God's will is always a place of peace, hope and security.

God-tracking is getting on with the will of God.

Happy tracking

Dudley

Verse of the Week

Romans 12:2
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Quote of the Week
A Sample of Dudley's Fave Quotes

"We are not called to live by human reason. All that matters is obedience to God's word and his leading in our lives. If God says go, we'll go. If he says stay we'll stay. When we are in his will, we are in the safest place in the world." --- Brother Yun

Don't Give Up, Look Up!
Look up and Fix Your Eyes on Jesus!

But Lord, You Determine My Steps

Proverbs 16:9
In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps.

Pray
"My Lord, I admit that I have been doing things by my own reason and not following your will with spiritual wisdom and understanding. Forgive me, O Lord, for taking my eyes off of Jesus and looking at my own circumstance. I decide now to lift my gaze and look up to do your will. Thank you for revealing your plans to me, moment by moment. I realise that I will never see the whole picture until the end of my life. Therefore, I trust your course and your plans for me, day by day. Help me to walk in obedience and produce good fruit in my life. Help me to get on with the job you have called me to do. I pray for the resources and the means to do the good works you have in store for me, and the wisdom to know how to do it. Thank you for the inspiration and instruction of your word. Thank you for your Holy Spirit's anointing to function according to your will for my life. But Lord, you determine my steps. In Jesus. Amen."
