Caring For My Temple, His Creation

by Leah K. Oxendine
2/06/2011 / Stewardship

Lots of people today talk about "saving the earth."

Grocery stores promote reusable "green bags" to carry your groceries in.
TV commercials spotlight "eco-friendly" gadgets like solar powered flashlights. Everyone wants household appliances that use less energy, right?

Sure, we all know that we shouldn't litter, or leave the TV on when no one's watching it. And if you're like a lot of other people, you have recycling facilities all around you and it's almost your duty to use them!

But why do we do these things? Do we do it to "save the earth?" Do we do it to make the world around us a better place, or to get special awards at school for taking care of the environment?

When God created the world, and everything in it, He said it was good. But He didn't mean for people to focus so much on the earth that they made an idol of it, replacing Him as God. We are to care for His creation, like Adam did! After all, WE are also His creation. Stop for a minute, and just think about how you are made in the likeness of God, the Creator of the universe!
He hand-crafted you in your mother's womb you are a work of art, a miracle in action. So when God said to care for His creation, do you think that applies to not only caring for the earth, but taking care of YOURSELF as well?

God's Word says in 1 Cor. 6:29, "What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?" Then, in verse 20, "For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's."

Did you hear that? There's the answer to our question! If Jesus Christ is your personal Savior, the Holy Ghost dwells in you and your body is not just a body anymore, but a temple! Picture a beautiful, masterfully crafted building that's your body; and your body is where God, the Holy Ghost, lives!

Since your Creator is living in you, and you are His temple, don't you think it should be your duty to take care of your body? We are to glorify God in our bodies and spirits like the above verses said. So while it is good to care for the earth and glorify God by taking care of His world, it is also very important that we not neglect our own bodies keep your temple healthy!

Here are some ways you can care for your temple.

Keep your temple beautiful by drinking lots of water!
Keep your temple strong by exercising and moving!
Keep your temple shining by getting enough sleep!
Keep your temple well-guarded by wearing clothes that do not draw inappropriate attention!
Keep your temple sparkling by smiling and being joyful!
Keep your temple clean by eating healthy foods, maintaining a neat, tidy appearance, and following a healthy hygiene routine!
