Monetary units praise the Lord

by Greg Miller

Dime, Penny, Nickel, Quarter, Half Dollar Coin, Dollar Coin, and Five Dollar Bill held a conference to determine which monetary unit was the most valuable.

"There is no question about it," said Dollar Coin. "I'm worth 100 pennies and two half dollars."

"You're just trying to throw your weight around," admonished Half Dollar Coin.

"Yeah!," agreed Quarter. "Why don't you pick on somebody your own size?"

"Because it's so much more fun to kid around with you guys," joked Dollar Coin. "And it's so easy to needle you."

Quarter recognized a talent that she, Nickel and Dime possessed that Penny, Half Dollar Coin and Dollar Coin couldn't brag about.

"We can all fit inside the coin slots of vending machines to get sodas and snacks for the people who put us in the machines," said Quarter.

"That's right," agreed Nickel. "Also, we are great sizes to fit inside a piggy bank. So we are the perfect size to help kids who want to learn how to save money."

"I think it's about time for me to make myself heard on this important matter," announced Five Dollar Bill. "I'm worth more than all the rest of you put together. Plus, when I'm folded, I can fit into almost any piggy bank."

Five Dollar Bill added, "I'm also better looking than anyone else in this room."

"Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder," Dime observed. "I've been told that I'm the nicest looking coin. Except for you, Five Dollar Bill, and you're a handsome greenback."

"We're all nice looking coins," said Half Dollar Coin. "But we were all created with different jobs to do."

"We were all created to do different jobs," said Nickel. "But all of us are supposed to fulfill the same purpose."

Nickel continued, "The purpose of each of us is to bring honor and glory to the Lord Jesus Christ. I receive a special blessing every time a young child places me in the offering plate at church."

"I can hear you, Brother Nickel," said Half Dollar. "And I'm very joyful when someone does the same thing with me."

Five Dollar Bill acknowledged that he received a special blessing every time he was used to pay the pastor's salary. "My job is very important!," he smiled.

"Penny wasn't very particular where she was used in the church's ministry. "Wherever the Lord has the greatest need is where I want to serve," she said.

Five Dollar Bill responded, "You're only one cent. What can you accomplish?"

"Maybe not a lot by myself," Penny admitted. "But when I team up with my twin sister, Pennie, our two cents worth is really a pretty penny!"
