Dear God Tracker

Track His Ancient Paths

We are very privileged to have a good road infrastructure in the UK. Though congested, our motorways are well maintained and well planned. Even our "A" and "B" roads are secure and easily accessible. However, it was not always like this. In ancient times there were no 3-lane motorways. In fact, there were no tarred roads at all. Like anywhere in the world, people could only travel from village to village and town to town using well trodden dirt roads. These roads became known as the ancient trade routes and were frequently used by people on foot, horseback and in carriages. In the Bible lands, camel caravans were made up of many groups of traders and families travelling together between main centres, using these ancient paths. These travellers were relatively safe provided they remained on these trade routes. If they approached a crossroad they might stop and ask one another, "Where is the ancient path that we may travel along it in peace." To deviate from these paths and take a bypath or road not built up would almost certainly spell disaster for any traveller.

The prophet, Jeremiah addressed his people at the verge of national disaster when they stood at the crossroads of history and said, "Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls," (Jer 6:16). Later on he said, "Yet my people have forgotten me; they burn incense to worthless idols, which made them stumble in their ways and in the ancient paths. They made them walk in bypaths and on roads not built up," (Jer 18:15). Sadly, we live in a very similar society today. Twenty first century Christians are standing at the crossroads of the choice between God's way and the way of humanism. The danger is that they will set foot on the bypath that will take them off God's ancient paths.

Dear God Tracker, how about you? Where do you stand today? Are you facing a choice in life or perhaps on the verge of wondering off the well trodden ways of God's word and the fellowship of his Holy Spirit, looking for alternative ways of following Jesus? Just as in Bible times, many of the modern alleyways and side roads of our cities are very dangerous and insecure. Likewise, wondering off of the ancient paths of a Bible based life is dangerous and insecure. Only the Lord knows your path ahead. Only by fellowshipping with Holy Spirit and remaining in the Word of God will you easily trod those ancient paths so that you will walk safely into the future and find rest for your soul. So keep acknowledging the Lord God in all your ways will allow him to direct you as you track his ancient paths.

God-tracking is walking along those ancient paths.

Blessings

Dudley

What Matters to You, Matters To Me

Mark 6:31
Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, "Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest."

Pray
"Lord, I need your rest. I have been travelling this road for too long without asking where the ancient paths are. I'm sorry if I have missed your way and taken a side road, O Lord. I want to come with you on your pathway to a quiet place that I may find rest for my soul. Help me to track your will; help me to never turn aside and follow my own plans. Only what matters to you, matters to me. I love you Lord. Amen."
