Gearing Up To Be Like Jesus

by Audrey Bryant
3/13/2011 / Worship

Is it possible to be like Jesus--one with God? The requirement involves more than going to church, praying, speaking in tongues, and laying hands on the sick. Fulfilling this requirement is God's plan, but we must trust Him. How many times have we cried to Him to meet our financial needs, or we prayed and confessed healing scriptures when our bodies were wrecked with pain, or we believed the Word and prayed some more when we were at odds with a loved one or friend? Time and time again God answered through provision, favor, healing or reconciliation. Through the good, the bad and the ugly, we have made it. Isn't God's track record good enough? Then truly we can trust God's method for oneness with Him: worshipping like Jesus which is dying to ourselves.

As we worship like Jesus, God can move through us accomplishing His will. If we don't do it like Jesus, we can't be like Jesus. God's Word was formed in Jesus; therefore, He had God's very thoughts, emotions and will. Jesus lived his life as our example, bowing down His life to God.

Jesus only did God's will. (Mathew 26:39-42, John 6:38)
I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me. John 5:30 KJV

Jesus said what God said. (John 8:25-28, John 14:9-10)
For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. John 12:49 KJV

Jesus did what He saw God do. (John 5:19-20, John 8:29)
Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise. For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater John 5:19-20 KJV

In Luke 22:42 Jesus said "nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done." Jesus died to himself throughout His life, therefore He was able to live out God's thoughts, feelings, and will. Dying to ourselves is the only way of becoming one with God. Do we choose to be like Jesus?
