Hidden among ringing bells,
an avenue of colourful decorations
where a homeless man crosses
his heart with pain, heels
wearing thin, steps groaning
across another block, two bags
of Sally-Ann clothes heavy
hunger gnawing as he joins a
shopping flood of Christmas joy.
Pretends heās part of the excitement
shoes slapping, heart pounding
stomach aching, bags
lighter from each moment.
