Has the devil got you Poised to Strike at your Spouse?

by Jack Vorster
4/19/2011 / Christian Living

Has the devil got you poised to strike at your spouse and the world around you? As strange as this may sound, your mindset may be not be a depiction of your own thinking patterns, but that of invisible foreign entities, who are at work through those who, unwittingly, might have invited them in.

It is true that we are surrounded by spiritual forces, either with good or bad intent. Those of us who have developed weaknesses in our human make-up - perhaps as a result of deprivation during our childhood years or hurtful disappointments in life - are particularly prone to influence by the darker forces at work in the world. Anger, bitterness, jealousy and over-sensitivity are some of the emotions making us prime targets for a takeover and instrument for use against our fellow man.

Bringing misery to bear upon your spouse and others and not being able to curb the tendency would be a sure sign that you are not in control of that little fellow within, namely, the mind. The human mind is a spiritual battlefield where the devil desires to firmly plant his flag and take a giant step for the powers of darkness.

If both spouses in a marriage live their lives as if God is real, then their marriage and the relationship they have with one another will be filled with joy and peace regardless of what the devil throws at them.

However, if one of the spouses in a marriage remains reluctant in letting go of past hurts, worldly interests and still enjoys some or many aspects of worldly living, then conflict and strife will always enter the relationship.

If both partners do, in fact, live their lives as if God is real, but one of the partners is self-centred and self-righteous in his/her approach to the relationship always desiring the focus to be on fulfilling his/her demands and needs, then such a marriage relationship will always deliver stress to the hearts of both partners.

The partner who truly serves God and displays the fruit of the Spirit and has no self-serving motives will ensure God's protection and blessing upon the erring partner. However, the "good" partner will just have to endure the "thorn in the flesh" discomfort caused by such a relationship and perhaps even feel restrained from serving God fully.

Christian couples entering into marriage should make sure that the enemy's flag has been removed and that they are equally yoked in their belief structure.

Many people believe in God and Salvation through Jesus Christ, but are not truly born again. They become church-goers and attempt to follow good works - and not Jesus Christ. And this is where the problems, as mentioned above, begin. We were not called to be Christians. We were called to be Christ-like. The former is a title. The latter is a life.

Now retired, Jack Vorster has a background in marketing in the field of newspaper advertising. As a result of a life-changing experience he turned his attention to the study of the human make-up and the realities connected to human behaviour based on the Word of God.
