1 John 2:1 (NIV) - My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense - Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.
Jesus died for our sins. His death saved us from God's wrath. His resurrection made the way for us to be forgiven.
As Christians we know this to be true. We believe this and put our hope in these truths.
This is the basis of our faith.
His faithful followers have recorded His instructions for us to follow. We can read and study His word and know His will for our lives.
But we are not made perfect because we believe or because we read and study.
As we live and learn and travel through this fallen world we will make wrong decisions, we will make mistakes, we will turn away from God and give in to temptation.
Until we step from this life into eternity, Jesus is with us to remind us that He died and rose again so that our mistakes and wrong decisions will be forgiven. When we turn away, He is there with open arms to take us back into right relationship with Him. When we give in to temptation, He is there to reassure us that we are still His.
It is only through Jesus that we stand righteous in God's sight. It is only through Him that we are forgiven; not just for the past but for the present and the future.
Jesus died for our weaknesses; He rose to make the way for our forgiveness; He lives to help us get up and keep on going when we fall.
