Romans 6:6-7 (NLT) - Our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin.
Through Jesus' death and resurrection we have spiritually died and risen to new life, we are free from sin.
This is a wonderful and beautiful promise and it is something we must understand and take to heart as Christians.
We are forgiven and free from God's punishment for sin...but we are not free from temptation.
Temptation is what we wrestle with daily. Giving in to temptation is what robs us of our freedom.
We are tempted to be discouraged, to feel sorry for ourselves and put ourselves first. Instead of trusting God to know His plans for us, we are tempted to rebel and go our own way. We are tempted to be gloomy and negative.
There is no wrong in being tempted. It is when we give in to temptation that we lose our freedom.
If we believe that Jesus died and rose again to free us from sin, we can say no to temptation, refuse to give in, stand strong in our knowledge that our Father loves us and has a plan for every day of our lives.
Jesus has given us the power (the ability); He has provided the way to be free.
We are free to be content and joyful. We are free to be at peace with our God. We are free to trust Him to know what is best even when circumstances seem to disagree. We are free to depend on His secure presence in difficult situations.
It's our decision. Freedom is a choice. Don't give in; stay free.
