Pride Denied
by Deborah Ann Belka
5/06/2011 / Poetry
The Lord took and stripped
away my selfish pride
until I stood naked before Him
and had nothing left to hide.
I saw for the first time,
just how arrogant I really was
caring more about my own success
and doing what a vain person does.
I realized in my heart,
the proud women I became
and as He pointed out my conceit
I felt the sting of my own shame
I never really knew,
how much love for me, I wrought
until He laid my life before me
and I saw the smugness that I brought.
I was content in my complacency,
and never saw though my mistakes
but He showed me my true intentions
and how high to Him, were the stakes.
Nothing could discourage me,
and my pride I did deny
but He prove to me that I was caught
in the web of Satan's lie.
For self-righteousness has no part,
in a Christian's way of life
it only brings about ego's delusions
and causes the double-minded strife!
