Seeds of Blessings

by Steve Countryman

As Christians at the time of salvation we have been deposited with the seed of Jesus in us. It is God's seed of blessing to us. It is that seed that with maturity grows and produces abundant fruit. Without that seed of Jesus we can do nothing, but with that awesome seed we can do ALL things. There is no seed more powerful. God cannot look upon sin but because of that seed of Jesus God can look at us. He sees us through the blood of the Lamb that washes away all of our sin. It is that seed with the help and special attention of the master gardener, the Holy Spirit, that causes that seed to grow in us. Because the Holy Spirit is committed to and constantly changing us from glory to glory this allows the seed of Jesus to mature, grow, bear fruit and multiply in and through us. That is Jesus manifested through you every day. For you no longer act, behave or talk as you once did because you have been changed and people have noticed.

Seed can be good or bad depending on how it is used and the intention behind its use. There are several things that can be called seeds that you possess. The most obvious is money. Money is seed! All seed is dead or dormant until it is used or in this case until money is spent. Even money in a savings account is money the banks use and pays you to use it that they call interest. Money is worthless paper until it is used just as seed is worthless until it is sown. Every time you spend your money you are sowing your money, like at the grocery store, department store, gas pump, movie theater, over the Internet and at restaurants. That money is sown into the companies that make those products, transport those products, stock or prepare those products and sell those products and all of the employees along the way. Likewise if you sow your money to support your drug, alcohol or sex addictions you are sowing into those who provide it to you! Those who sow bad seed will reap bad fruit and those who sow good seed will reap good fruit. Sowing your money into the kingdom of God is not only a command, your tithe, but a privilege and blessing that will bring forth good fruit.

Another common seed is the fruit that flows from your lips. Words carry power of both curses and blessings. What you say impacts your surroundings either positively or negatively. They travel as seeds in the fruit of your lips to the person who hears it. How that seed is received is how that seed will grow and bear fruit. If it is a harsh or hateful word then it will bring bad fruit. If it is a word of encouragement, good advice or blessing then that word will bring good fruit. It is not just the words that you say to others but also those you declare over yourself. Every time you make a mistake and call yourself names you are cursing yourself. You must control your tongue and develop a habit of saying and declaring only good and positive things over yourself and others. "I'm not stupid but I have made stupid decisions" is better than calling yourself stupid!

Sowing seed requires you to make an investment regardless what your seed is. Other types of seed are your time, your talent, your prayers, your faith, your testimony, sharing the Gospel, your love, your compassion, your belongings and your energy. Money is the easiest seed to sow because it requires the least amount of involvement and time invested. Likewise time is one of the rarest and most reluctant seeds sown. Through your daily walk with the Father you develop a deeper love for Him which grows the seed of love in you toward others. That encourages your spirit to want to sow seeds into those around you and those you meet daily.

Our God is the God of S.O.E.! He is the God of Surplus, he is the God of Overflow and He is the God of Excess. God provides your different types of seeds of blessings for you to sow from the surplus, overflow and excess that He pours out over you! Malachi 3: 10-11 10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. 11 I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe," says the LORD Almighty. It is so much that you have to give it away, sow it, for you have no room for it!

Did you know that every time you represent the kingdom of God to others that you are sowing seeds of blessings in them? Every time you bless someone by helping them you are sowing seeds for God's kingdom. It is what you may not know that is total amazing. Because of your seed sowing into someone's life you may have just answered their prayers. That is how God answers prayers through people who sow and they are blessed by their sowing and the recipient is blessed too. If all of us could just see the impact that our seeds of blessings carry once sown we would be blown away! It could be the littlest of things like a kind word of encouragement to someone who is having a bad day. By paying for the people's bill who are sitting close to you at the restaurant the next time you go out to eat. Or how about mowing the lawn of your neighbor who has been too sick to do it themselves. Doing it in such a way that they don't know you did it. Not expecting anything in return is what being a blessing to others is as you plant your seeds of blessings. This is not "paying it forward" which is done as an obligation for receiving a "pay it forward" but is a daily lifestyle choice as His representative here on earth!

God places opportunities in your life daily to sow your seeds of blessings but it takes the art of listening to know what to do. Once you develop the habit of listening to others you will find ways to sow seeds of blessings in their lives. Listen for opportunities that are around you every day. God puts different people in your life for one of two reasons, to be a blessing to you or for you to be a blessing to them and sometimes both. You will run in to those who will not receive your seeds of blessings well or may just blow you off. Do not let it bother you or deter you for your seed once sown may take a while to germinate before it springs to life in them. Be determined to sow!

Your fruit is what comes from the seed you have sown in good soil. People will know you because of your fruit and you will know them by their fruit. Fruit carries seeds that multiply when sown. It is God's promise that seed will multiply because of good fruit thirty, sixty or even a hundredfold. Imagine how one single seed can multiply once it is sown and becomes a plant that in its life will produce over thousands of fruit that all contains more seeds. It is amazing what one seed can do! The time is "ripe"!
