"Bless My Sins"

by Steve Countryman
5/31/2011 / Christian Living

How can the world tell the difference between you, the saint, and the rest of the sinners? There should be a VERY visible difference. If we act, behave and look like the lost souls around us then how can we point them to Jesus Christ? Since becoming a Christian Does your daily life reflect Christ's love in it? Does your attitudes seem to follow the headlines of fear rather then trusting in God's Word? Does your routines, habits and places you frequent tell a different story than that of a devout Christian? Do the words that fly out of your mouth when you are angry fit right in with most "R" rated movies? Do you complain about your daily life to anyone that will listen? Do you jump in with the group at work to tell dirty jokes? Does the way you dress show little to no shyness or a lifestyle that doesn't fit a Christian? Do you try to mix other beliefs or religions with your own to fit your lifestyle? Do your friends, co-workers or classmates know that you go to church or that you are even a Christian? Those are just a few surface examples of the visible part of your life.

Shall we look just below the surface? Are you known for holding grudges and getting even? Do you hold un-forgiveness against those who have crossed you? Are you known as a gossiper? Do you find it hard to tithe or donate money to your church/religious organization but always find money to buy lottery tickets with? Do your neighbors consider you a good friendly neighbor or neighbors from hell? Is your home known for its comfort and peace qualities or is it known as the war zone? Is daily fighting and arguing just another average day in your home? Does laughter and joy seem to be missing or seldom heard in your home?

Shall we go deeper? Do you let your visiting child and their lover share the same bed in your house? Have you let your unmarried child and their lover move into your house and "live" in the same room? Do you let your live-in child crash at your house after partying? Do you buy liquor/beer for you children or allow them to drink in your home? Do you let your child do drugs in your house? Do you condone your child's homosexual lifestyle or sexual activity? Have you given your pregnant daughter permission to get an abortion? Do you hand out birth control pills or condoms to your children? What Christian example do you present to your family everyday?

Why don't we go deeper still? Do the bartenders know you by your first name? Do ladies of the evening flag you down as you drive by because they recognize your car? Do drug dealers meet with you on a regular basis? Have you been married several times and/or living with someone "out of wedlock"? Are you married and having affairs? Are the druggies, gang-bangers, alcoholics, ex-cons, party animals and sex addicts those who you witness to or are they your friends you hang with? Is it hard for you to find time to read your Bible but you always find time to look at porn? Do you always find excuses not to go to church? Are you so busy that you can't make daily time for God? Are addictions destroying your life? Do you blame others and your past for your present conditions rather than take responsibility for your life?

"Sinners sin by nature, saints sin by choice." Why don't I have a positive influence on people around me? Where is God in my life? Why can't I see His Holy Spirit moving in my life? Why doesn't God answer my prayers? Why do I have so much extra trouble and strife in my life every day? Why am I or someone in my family always sick? Why do I feel like I am missing out on God's blessings for me and my family? Holding on to or returning to former sinful ways/lifestyles will bring curses over your life and your family! Living in sinful ways/habits and asking for God's blessings is to ask God to bless your sins. God will not! Do not get trapped by past sins for they will keep you captive and make you a useless and powerless Christian! Be the Christian example that God has predestined you to be.

We are not here to blend in with this world but because we are "born again" we have been set apart from this world. That means that we now stand out as beacons of His light to the lost shining God's light brightly and loudly through our daily lives. We are easily visible because we don't look at the "me" things of this world of entitlements but have chosen to set our eyes on Jesus daily. It is a Christ mind-set not a worldly mind-set that helps to set us apart. Romans 8:12-16 12Therefore, brothers, we have an obligationbut it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it. 13For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, 14because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." 16The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. Ephesians 4:22-24 22You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. By eliminating .the sins of the past and those who try to trap you in them you now have better communication with God the Father and unhindered prayers. When you pray, pray the answer to your problems according to God's will and His Word to bring the future answer of God to the here and now! It is time to be visibly different. It is time to stand!
