Read It, Believe It, Live It

by Steve Countryman

The Holy Bible has been around for over three millennia. It was written over a 1500-year period by 40 authors ranging from every walk of life including kings, peasants, shepherds, philosophers, fishermen, poets, statesmen, scholars, etc., and written in different locations. God's Word doesn't contradict itself. The Old Testament foretells of the coming of Christ. The New Testament tells of His birth through Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. It tells how we are to live, believe and act as children of the Most High God. It tells of what was, is and is yet to come and how we will all live in eternity. Through centuries of transcribing, translating into over 2100 languages and found on every continent on the planet, the integrity of the Holy Bible stands as the most accurately reproduced piece of literature ever written.

The Bible is extremely unique in different ways. It is an accurate history book, a book of fulfilled and yet to be fulfilled prophecies, the story of creation, the story of the creator's love for His creation, a love story, and a wedding story. A book full of miracles, wonders, faith, hope, belief and unbelief. A book about good and evil. A book about God's kingdom of light and love. Once you start reading you find that the Bible is full of facts, truths and stories that leave your imagination running wild. The Bible has layers to all of its' stories and parables. First there is the story layer that everyone reads. The next layer is the meaning of the story. Next is the life lesson from the story. Then there is the layer of discovery, which includes the Hebrew and the Greek translations. That is followed by the symbolism used in the Bible. Then the final layer that contains hidden messages that reveals a hidden truth and/or revelation.

The Lord showed me what studying the Bible is like a man who found a large black rock. He picked up the rock and glanced it over. Then he threw it away. Another man found the same rock and picked it up. He looked at it carefully and noticed something different about it. He noticed a tiny shiny spot on one side of the rock. The more he examined the rock the more apparent that the shiny spot was buried in the black rock. So he started to slowly and carefully remove the outer layer of black material exposing more and more of the shiny rock inside. The black rock was concealing a large beautiful flawless diamond. A valuable treasure of great price that the first man had in his hand but failed to see it and its worth. To the second man it took studying, time, effort, caring, interest and expectation to find the hidden treasurer that the first man wasn't even interested in looking for. That is what the Bible is like!

Read ityour first step is to make time to read and study the Bible daily. 2 Timothy 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman who needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. As you seldom forget to eat daily, which is food for your body, so reading the Bible is the food for your soul. Personally I feel that it is important to feed my spirit in the morning then my day starts off better. Studying God's Word is the key. Bible scholars and theologians have read the Bible front to back many times over but many still miss its' message and meaning. Read the Bible with an open heart and let the Holy Spirit guide you in all truth. As you read you will see things that you have read hundreds of times before but still missed. Little powerful things that only the Holy Spirit can bring alive in you. Pray for wisdom, knowledge and understanding before reading and watch what God will speak to your heart about!

Believe it as believers we have one very important thing to do and that is to believe God's Word! John 3:15 that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life. Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Either Jesus is who He says that He is and you believe His Word or you do not, there is no middle ground. The Bible is the authoritative Word of God. You must believe the whole Bible because only picking and choosing which parts to believe in means you are trying to make God the way you want Him to be not who God really is. It is an all or nothing belief system!

Live it The biggest part of believing it is putting your beliefs and faith into action. That means that you are living a daily life pleasing and acceptable to God. Fulfilling God's destiny for your life. People notice different things about you even when you don't know they are watching. They ware looking for your fruit, the way you live what you believe. To see how you handle everyday problems and issues. To see if you are truly different than the average "Joe" when it comes to being a Christian or is it all talk. Live it means that you are a daily example of what being a Christians is all about. Read it and believe it doesn't matter if you don't live it! Are you ready?!?
