"No More"

by Steve Countryman
8/10/2011 / Christian Living

There are more times than I would like to think of when I have sinned and have felt so foolish for doing so. I then start saying to myself I am such a fool, I am so stupid, I am so dumb, I am such a jerk, I am an idiot and on and on. Of course doing so is to speak or declare curses over myself. Looking back on each incident it is the reality of the sin that brings me to that point of feeling that way. I often hear other people do something similar after making a mistake. They will start calling themselves names. God knows that we are not perfect and that we sometimes stumble and fall. He is more concerned with us getting back up and moving forward in Him than for us to keep reliving our mistakes over and over in our minds by kicking ourselves for them. This can be the beginning of a bad habit. First sinning then brow beating yourself after asking God for forgiveness. Not forgiving yourself after expecting God to forgive you is a vicious cycle to be trapped in. By doing so you set yourself higher than God who is the all forgiving Father which is sin itself.

John 8:10-11 10 When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, "Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?" 11 She said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said to her, "Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more." John 5:14 "See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you." The last time I found myself declaring the same negative routine to myself God spoke to me to add two words to my phrases "no more". I am an idiot no more. I am foolish no more. I am stupid no more. The power of those two little words changed my attitude. They changed my faith and trust. They changed my situation. They changed my perspective. They changed my defeat to victory. They changed my life. Those two words that represent deliverance and freedom from a previous life of slavery and sinful lifestyle. Our God is a God of transcendent glory. He can take the negative and turn it to a positive by adding two little words!

No one on their own and without God can go "and sin no more". We Christians have Jesus Christ living and dwelling in us which means that we have the ability to go and sin no more! Jesus is the key ingredient that is needed to add those two little powerful words to our situations and to our lives, no more! No more do we live under the worldly influence of the kingdom of darkness. No more does sin rule in our lives. No more do we have to accept what the world has to offer. No more do we have to submit and subject ourselves to the sinful addictions of all kinds that once reigned over us. No more do we consider ourselves slaves to sin but free from sin. No more does fear and doubt guide our decisions. No more do we have to live a life without purpose. No more do we have to accept sickness and disease as part of our lives. No more is apathy and mediocre living acceptable. No more does the spirit of poverty have influence in our lives. No more does un-forgiveness; revenge, paybacks, pettiness, selfishness and jealousy consume us. No more does fornication and lust control our thoughts. No more do we have to believe the deceitful lies of Satan and ignore the truth of God. No more are we defeated and useless. Part of what Jesus came to earth to do was to provide an abundant life for His children. So where ever there is a "no more" means that Jesus has provided the opposite for us to live abundantly in! No more are two very powerful words that are decisive, firm, unchanging, unwavering, uncompromising, unmoving, states that some things are no longer acceptable and declares a position taken!

Deliverance, freedom, assurance, forgiveness, faith and trust come from the additions of those two words that Jesus imparts and empowers you to use. Renewing your mind daily in the Word of God, daily prayer and time spent with the Father will help to support those two powerful words in your life. So the next time that you find yourself on the verge of declaring curses over yourself, just add those two little powerful words "no more" to your curses that will change them to blessings and watch the changes that will happen in your faith, trust, attitude and circumstances. Are you ready?!?
