God's Will, God's Way

by Steve Countryman

According to the web as of 2002, 82% of Americans claim to be Christian. Claiming to be Christian does not make you a Christian. Going to church doesn't make you any more of a Christian than sitting in your garage makes you a car. Too often people fall into a religion or false teaching that has it's own agendas that seldom includes God or Jesus. Or they say that they believe in the Bible but actually only believe selected items from the Word that appeal to their lifestyle and religion. I call them the "pick and choose" religions. They don't get it! The Bible isn't a book to partially believe or partially believe in. Revelation 22:18-19 18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. 19And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book. Read those two verses again. It doesn't just refer to those who would try to re-write the Bible but also to those who would try to edit part or all of it in their minds and hearts to help them justify their sinfulness. To those who would try to create God in their image instead of us created in His image.

John 1:1-5,14 1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning. 3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of men. 5The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. 14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. Jesus is called the Word. These verses refer to Jesus as the Word becoming flesh. You can't say that you believe in the Bible and not believe that the Son of God is Jesus Christ. Likewise, you can't believe in Jesus Christ and not believe the whole Bible! The Bible is an all or nothing book just as Jesus Christ is a all or nothing God in flesh. Jesus the one and only Son of God, who died for our sins on the cross and was raised again, defeated Satan once and for all and part of the Holy Trinity. For those people who call themselves Christian but don't believe everything that the Bible says, don't believe in Jesus Christ! It is ALL or nothing at all. Jesus and the Bible are one and the same.

"But I don't know God's will." The Bible is where you find the heart and the will of God. Looking at all the religions of our modern age and those from the past you see where most of the religions are for mans' benefit not God's. Trying to earn your way to heaven by works or deeds deserving of heaven. Making God a side note of heaven instead of the reason for heaven. "God in a box" is how most Christians treat God. Keeping Him on a shelf until needed. With a note on top of the box that reads "Open in case of emergency". None of that is how God is to be treated or thought of and it isn't God's will. The Spanish Inquisition was made up of people who thought they were doing God's will. Through time many countries and cultures have committed atrocities in the name of heaven and the Lord. All of them thought they were doing God's will. Even SaulPaul admitted that before his conversion he thought that he was doing the will of God when he had Christians arrested, beaten, imprisoned and put to death. Christianity has suffered bad reputations through time due religions and to others wrong interpretations of the Gospel. "Turn or burn" applies from scripture but it is a free-will choice not a coerced decision, that is God's will.

David, as we all know, was a man after God's own heart. He loved God and loved to tell Him so. David had good intentions on moving the Ark because he felt that he was doing Gods will. I studied the story of David and the Ark in both 1Chronicles 13 and 2Samuel 6. Prior to bringing back the Ark, David would seek God's advice before going to battle. He was seeking the wisdom of God and the strategy necessary to win the battles. The revelation that David received about bringing the Ark back was part of Gods plan and will. If not, God would not have allowed the Ark to be moved. The problem is that this time David didnt seek God and His wisdom on how to move the Ark correctly. Because David received the revelation didnt mean that it was okay for David to handle the revelation as he saw fit. In fact due to the lack of wisdom on Davids part it cost the life of one of Davids top men, Uzzah! Prior to Uzzah dying, David expected Gods blessings on him and all of Israel for bringing up the Ark but when Uzzah died David realized that he had done something wrong. David had missed the obvious. The Ark had rings mounted on it for the carrying poles to slide through them that allowed it to be moved by carrying it not carrying it on a cart. David did not use the carrying poles. It was then that David sought God and the wisdom necessary to move the Ark as God had intended it to be moved. David did what we tend to do when we receive revelation from God. Once you know Gods will you must understand His way. Doing Gods will your way isnt doing Gods will. Like people who receive a word of prophecy about Gods plan for them then they go out trying to fulfill it but not waiting on God to show them how. They are doing it their way not Gods way which doesnt give God the glory that He deserves. When that happens they miss out on the blessings, favor and anointing in their lives.

Guessing at Gods will and Gods way is a dangerous thing to do. It is too easy to fall prey to false teachings and false prophets by guessing. Read Gods Word, learn Gods will, live Gods will and do it Gods way. It is by Gods will and Gods way that you live a blessed and prosperous life here on earth. It is Gods will and Gods way that as his children we walk in His ways, His path and His will. That we walk empowered by the Holy Spirit doing Gods will. That we let Gods Spirit shine through us everywhere we go. It is Gods will and Gods way for all of His children to be a powerful Christian influence on our surroundings and not allow our surroundings influence us. Are you ready?!?
